This place is GOOOOD. We went in as a group of six and ordered pretty much everything on the menu. The Chicken Shawarma and the Veggie Delight really stood out for me in particular. I also thought their Falafels were really well-made and delicious, so getting a falafel plate to share would be a great choice as well! The service is very good, the food is pretty affordable, and you're required to order and pay before you get served. I'd definitely drop by here again when I'm around the Mountain View area.

This has by far the best tasting hummus I have had In a long time. Falafel and chicken shawarma are really good.. Fast service and being on Castro its a good place to fill up before heading out to clubbing on castro

Chicken/Beef & Lamb Shawarma - Meh. "Shawarma" is expected to be a chicken/lamb meat shaved of a rotating roaster, rather than warmed up sliced meat. usually it is also filled with tomato/cucumber/onion salad and parsley while this one ended up with lettuce. it doesn't even remind the taste of a real shawarma wrap. Falafel wrap - OK. this is my favorite - the taste is OK, the falafel seasoning is fine - i would love to get a little bit more falafel balls in the wrap. Overall the wraps are not too stuffed which makes them overpriced compared to a Burrito in "Los-Charros" or a similar dish at "Oren's Humus", both places a few blocks from there. Customer service - Clearly they are not the kindest staff in the world but the service is fast and productive, also i usually take out so that doesn't matter much.

Don't come here if customer service is a high priority for you. The food is better elsewhere as well. When ordering, the tall woman at the register clearly showed a high lack of customer service or care for what she is doing. She gives off an attitude that she hates her job and is only there because her family probably owns it. I ordered the falafel plate which was overcooked on the outside, and tasteless on the inside. The inside had zero flavor. All you tasted was the overcooked, almost burnt exterior. My girlfriend got the shawarma plate which was decent. What really caused me to not want to come here again was the tall woman's attitude when I asked to use the restroom. She pointed to a flashlight with a lanyard attached and said that was the key, and proceeded to give me directions to the bathroom in a very condescending tone, which was unwarranted. When I started walking the wrong way to the restroom, she raised her voice at me and proceeded to correct me with an even louder condescending tone. Quite frankly, she's a bitch and doesn't represent her family's business in a professional manner. Even if their food was great (which it isn't) they don't deserve your money. There are plenty of other places in the area which offer better Mediterranean food, with good service worthy of your time and hard earned money.

We came here with a group after HH. I wasn't up for a full dinner and was kind of turned off by the MTV prices so we only got hummus and pita. The hummus is too rich for me, lots of olive oil. May or may not be back for a full meal.

I come here so often that I haven't bothered to review this place till now. With my workplace being on Castro Street, I have a lot of options for lunch. What keeps bringing me back to Mediterranean Grill is the quality of the food and the price. The fact that it's a 30 second walk from my workplace might have something to do with it, too. My go-to dish is the chicken shawarma plate ($9.99). It comes with a generous amount of chicken, rice, pita bread, your choice of salad (Mediterranean salad or tabbouleh), and hummus or baba ghanoush. I always go with the tabbouleh and hummus. Both are consistently fresh, and the tabbouleh here is the standard by which I measure other places by. When a restaurant caters large batches of food, quality often suffers. However, I'm glad to say that whenever Mediterranean Grill caters to my workplace, the quality is as excellent as ever. Quality and consistency are the hallmarks of the place!

Found this place through yelp and decided to try it because I sure do love my Mediterranean food! I walked in and the guy taking my order was kinda like that really cool uncle that you know is going to take care of you. Hahaha! Customer service is on point, very clean and spacious to eat, and the food. OMG don't get me started on the food!!!! Hahah highly recommend! I got the #4 because I love the wraps with lots of meat

I've eaten here before and remember it being very tasty. Not sure what happened on my recent visit. I had the beef/lamb shwarma wrap and couldn't taste the lamb at all (if there was any in it). Made me sad as the only reason I had come was because of a mad lamb craving. Maybe I should have ordered the lamb kebabs instead so at least I'd be guaranteed to have lamb. Also had the baklava, which was quite good. The wrap was very disappointing so if I come back it will just be for the falafal (which I've had) and the baklava. Ordered takeout and service was fast.

We've been here twice for lunch and the food here is good. Both times, I've ordered the Beef and Lamb Shwarma Platter with Hummus and Cucumber and Yogurt Salad. The shwarma was nicely seasoned with spices and sliced in nice, bite-size pieces and placed on plain white rice. Hummus can be bland in some places, but the hummus here is not. They give you a very generous portion of it and it comes with warm pita slices as well. The cucumber and yogurt salad is nice and refreshing, pairing really well with the beef and lamb shwarma I've seasoned with the house hot sauce. My husband ordered the same thing I did, and my sister ordered the Chicken Shwarma. She enjoyed her food as well. The weather in Mountain View has been pretty much fantastic every day this summer, so we always eat outdoors when we come here. They have several tables outside and umbrellas to shield you from the sun. This is not a full service restaurant, so order at the counter and grab a table outside and enjoy your meal.

Worst. falafel .ever. Ok, so maybe my bad for not realizing that the bread was not going to be either lavash or pita. But who makes falafel with anything else? Cheap quality wrap- tasted gross. Uch, I couldn't even ignore it and just taste the falafel because the cheap processed wrap had such an awful flavor. The fillings also left much to be desired, and didn't seem to be much else than tomatoes. What dismal quality. They have to step up their falafel game, unless they are really just catering to people who don't know any better. Come on, guys. What is this? Give your customers better quality food!

Amazing food and great staff. Walked in and was attended to right away. Try the chicken kabob.

Went there today for lunch and got the feta salad and a lamb and beef Shawarma wrap. The salad was tasty, good amount of feta, and was perfectly acceptable, though perhaps a bit soggy, but the wrap was the worst attempt at shawarma i've ever had and led me to write this review. The texture of the shawarma meat was like pulled pork BBQ - fibrous bits of meat mixed with sauce, not like firm layers of shaved meat i have always previously experienced (since the meat is supposed to be shaved off the rotating roaster)..the flavour was nothing like roasted shawarma either, it was fairly tasteless and also salty from the sauce. I honestly dont believe the meat i was served was from a rotating shawarma roaster at all. I also couldnt taste any of that nice fatty flavour characteristic of lamb. As for the wrap, it contained just plain shredded lettuce, hummus, and the meat. There was no parsley or tabouli, hence no lovely parsley flavour that tabouli adds. The tahini/hummus stuff was not very tasty, certainly not garlicky enough. It was also supposed to contain tomato and onions. there may have been onions but there was not a single piece of tomato in there. I was a bit distracted seeing a friend, but i honestly should have taken it to the counter and asked for it to be redone with at least tabouli and tasty sauce since it cost a good $10 and the thing i was given was worth less than half that. It also took at least 15 minutes for our food to arrive which seems slow for things that are either cold or should already been cooked....

Counter service type restaurant. I had the vegetarian plate. The plate came with hummus, babaganoush, falafels, dolmas, fried potatoes, and my choice of a Mediterranean salad. The cost is $10 which is typical for a vegetarian platter. I thought the falafels were awesome! They had the nice crunch and flavor. However, I didn't like the hummus or babaganoush. The dips did not have any flavor. Plus, the pita bread was not warm. I would come back just for the falafels only.

  • Ryan B.

Tried the falafel wrap and the chicken kebab wrap. Both were delicious and a bit more food than we needed. The pickles, pickled veggies, lettuce, green stuff of some sort, and whatever else was in there made the taste varied and exciting. The falafel was quite good.

I always missed the real good Middle Eastern food since I moved to the Bay area until I found this great place. The quality of food, aroma, spices, service and people working are outstanding! It is family owned and you feel the home food being made for you. I highly recommend them

Me: "could I order a Greek salad with lamb?" Crusty old man behind counter: "we don't have Greek salad" Me: looking at salad in their hi def tv menu. It has feta, olives, tomatoes. Could easily pass as a Greek salad. Me: "Could I just order that salad with lamb on top?" Crusty man getting extra crusty: "just tell me the number on the menu!" Ummm, no thanks crusty man. No shortage of middle Eastern restaurants around these parts.

If you like places that put random food in your wrap instead of what it shows on the menu, this place is for you! Ordered Shawerma Wraps. In the description in the menu, NOT on my wraps: "Broiled fresh" tomatoes Onions Parsley Random crap in in my wraps: Sliced tomatoes. Not broiled. Not fresh. Not good. Hummus (??) (texture like hummus - tasted like mayo) Unidentifiable purple vegetable. (Seriously, what is that thing and WHY are you putting it on my wrap???) I actually don't know wtf the sauce was but the menu only showed tahini which I requested on the side but everything was swimming in some white-ish sauce. Oh, and ordered the whole wheat, got spinach. Seems like they just put inside whatever was lying around. Door Dash refunded me but I am so done with this place.

This has always been a place I wanted to try. I finally had the opportunity and really enjoyed my experience. The service is incredible! On my visit, I ordered a few things, one of which was their garlic potatoes. Unfortunately they were sold out of that. That was definitely a sign their potatoes must be good. The cashier then surprised me with something that most restaurants nowadays don't do. She offered me a free order of French fries and a cup for soda. I already intended to go back to try their garlic potatoes. After that incredible service, I will definitely go back. I highly recommend the chicken shawarma. It was tender and very flavorful. I can't wait to try the rest of their menu.

Very good food, but unfortunately they have very poor customer service. I called today to ask if they had any special offers or discounts for regular customers. He proceeded to say no and explain, but hung up before giving me the oppurtunity to respond and explore other options. I tried calling back twice. On the second attempt he put me on hold only to curse me out at his office when he got off hold and threaten to call the police. Very poor behavior for a restaurant that delivers such good food.

  • Vhia D.

I came here for dinner with my husband and the food was really tasty! I didn't like the fact that there was no description of each of the options so that you know what exactly you're getting in the meal; you have to ask at the counter and if you're trying to decide between meals that can be a slow process and you may hold up the line. I chose the vege platter and my husband got the beef and lamb platter. We thought the amount of food given was good value for money and it all tasted really nice, so for a low-key night out it was casual and inexpensive. However, I would probably go somewhere with table service and menus if I was going to spend a night out with relatives/friends/colleagues to make it a bit more special and comfortable.

Tried this place once and got hooked. First tried their chicken wrap but then my coworker got me to try the Chicken Shwarma plate. Now I'm craving it apts weekly! So, so good.

TL:DR; Food is decent, but a little pricy. I've come here with co-workers for lunch on several occasions, and the food has always been quite tasty. Order at the counter and runners will bring the food to you. The kabob is well seasoned and juicy, and they provide plenty of pita for the hummus that comes with the meal. The portion size is also descent. Service during lunchtime has been consistently fast. Personally, I just haven't been blown away by the food, and this is by no means a great value. Finally, you're usually given a choice of salad/side instead of the usual hummus, but they don't always ask you. I personally prefer the Baba Ganoush.

  • Rachel W.

Honestly, for $14.99 I was expecting WAY more than 5 little pieces of chicken and burnt pilaf (I got the chicken kebab plate). The flavor was ~good~ but not good enough to justify the prices. For 2 chicken kebab plates and 4 falafels, our total was $34... for counter service only. There are better and cheaper Mediterranean/Persian restaurants in the area. Just because it's on Castro doesn't mean it's worth it.

  • Kelly R.

A bit of a walk down Castro Street but pretty solid Mediterranean food. I got a chicken shawarma in a spinach wrap to-go, and the service was quick and friendly! It could be that I was already full to begin with, but I found the shawarma to be REALLY filling -- no need to order anything else to make a full meal!

My wife and I were ahead of 7 groups with two or more people and everyone got their food before we did. 24 minutes later, I went up to talk to one of the helpers and he said he'll check on it. 5 minutes later, two more groups received their food. We were hungry and fed up! We went up to get a refund and the guy who took our order didn't even apologize. He went straight to the kitchen to check on the food. When he came back, we demanded a refund. He stated that our food was coming up and said he would give us a refund. The food finally got onto trays while he refunded us and said we can have the food. Of course, you can't deny free food! Here's the kicker, most of the other people's food were on plates. We only ordered two wraps which should come out fast! Yeah, they must've forgotten but we noticed that other people went up to the register to follow up in their food. I would give zero stars, but I have to give one to complete this review. On top of all this, he didn't refund my $4.00 tip!

******Save your receipts and check them against your credit card statements!!!!***** I used to come here for over 4 years now as I used to work in the same building as this joint but I won't be coming back anymore after last week's incident. I got a take out from here last week - I always get the chicken shawerma meal ($9.99). I just checked my receipt with my credit card statement and this restaurant added a $3 tip for themselves! Luckily, my bank helped me get this resolved quickly but this was a VERY shady practice. I used to love eating here but this incident completely ruined it for me. Time to find an honest mediterranean restaurant.

I went to this place on a restaurant.com coupon. Not worth the discount. It is a very popular place, but I am thinking for the convenience, because the draw is not for the food. I mean it was OK, but certainly not the best I have had. I would recommend go somewhere else for Greek.

I've been here with my friends and on a date with my boyfriend and I always get the beef and lamb shawarma plate. It's very good and filling. For dessert I finish off with a baklava! The service can be slow, but can be fast where the food can be ready in five minutes. It's good for lunch and dinner and on a nice day, go out to the patio to eat there.

  • Alexi S.

Curious Yelper, This food is NOT mediterranean and is NOT good. It IS however OVERPRICED and OVERRATED. I got the ground beef kufta kebab plate to-go. Includes rice, hummus, and pita bread. The kufta kebab is VERY overcooked and VERY dry. It looked and tasted like a big fat burnt turd so I stopped eating it after 1 bite. Somehow I managed to give the meal a second chance by trying the rice, hummus, and pita bread which was also VERY disappointing. I don't mind this food if it's cheap because what you spend is typically what you get. However, it was actually quite pricey and was the OPPOSITE of getting what you pay for. One thing I will say in fairness is that to-go food is also a little bit risky because it's not as fresh anymore when you get home. However, I highly doubt it would have been much better. They are lucky I didn't eat it in the restaurant or I would have made a scene it was so disgusting. So, if you insist on eating at this place at the very least do NOT eat to-go food from here because then you are left with a giant waste of time, money, and still lacking food to satisfy your hunger. Sincerely, Your straight-shootin reasonable fellow Yelper

By far the best middle Eastern food In the area!!! I always come here when I am in Northern California. I get the same thing EVERY time. The number #17 the three meat combo plate. The portion size is perfect. And the food is amazing. I think by far the best part about this place is the service. It is a small mom and pop place and the guy who works the register is bar none the best. He is super friendly, really gracious, and treats you the way you want to be treated. (It's the taller guy). Make sure to stop by when you are in the area or even remotely close. It is really worth it!!

    (5)
  • Tani H.

Wow. This was really subpar. The beef had a very off taste, and the falafel wrap was unusual. Threw it away and won't try it again. So sorry to report this, but it wasn't worth a second chance for me.

  • Axe P.

The place is just about average. Rating is more like 2.5 Reason: average. Nothing that stands out on either end of the spectrum and since there's so much competition for Mediterranean food places in and around Castro. It will be one of my last options for Mediterranean food around here For vegetarian options it is easily a passé! For instance, the veggie delight, is a Combination of scanty amounts of a few things. They serve about 2 tablespoons of hummus and babaganosh hitch taste aight! The salads are probably disgusting and almost non-existent. The falafel and dolmades are ok. The potato thing is amazing though again it's only scanty. Oh and they won't sub their stupid pita bread with rice! The rice isn't even yellow! And it's pricier than other places too All in all, save your money and go elsewhere around here like gyro house and euphesus(sp?)

    (2)
  • Ken K.

The falafel wrap was good. The pita bread was a little over done and burnt but still edible. I think they are trying to rebrand as a Pita shop. Food and menu is still the same. Yelpers should not be so picky for a $7.00 meal. Just get the wrap as it is a good meal deal.

  • Jessica S.

Come here during lunch, I work directly across the street. It usually is very busy but not to bad. The food is great when they get your order right. Today I ordered: Chicken spinach wrap. Simple right! Guess not instead I received a chicken wrap in wheat tortilla. To top it off my wrap was extremely lose which made my wrap inconveniently messy. That wasn't the worst part I waited extremely long when I asked about my food they mentioned that they put it away because no one claimed it. Mind you at no point did they call my number. At that point I was furious, they notice this so they offered me some dessert. Overall food was ok it would of taste better with the spinach wrap.

Food is good, service is extremely slow. Come for the taste, skip when already starving.

  • Lisa T.

Ate lunch here because my child insisted on it and said the hummus was awesome. I don't know, but it tasted slightly bitter to me. It's a bit pricey for lunch, but at least it was served quickly. I was going to order a wrap, but at the last minute changed my mind to order a platter, which was a big mistake because it was too much food for me. The meat was kind of dry, but tasty. Lots of people seem to like this place, as it was crowded. I like Rose Market better, so I'll probably go there next time I want this type of food.

Great food. Excellent kufta kebab and chicken kabob. The garlic sauce is super potent, not for the faint of heart, but our family loves it!! Friendly family run place. It's a regular favorite of ours. We've been coming here for years since the kids were so little they shared our plates. Now they out eat us with hefty plates of their own.

The shawarma is meh: yelp.com/biz_photos/medi… It doesn't come close to my gold standard, which is Sam's Restaurant in Davis. The hummus has too much lemon juice; it's very astringent. But the Turkish coffee is great: yelp.com/biz_photos/medi… You get a huge amount, and it's quite good.

Located on the quieter side of Castro Street, Mediterranean Grill House makes for a great lunch spot! I had never noticed it tucked away next to the Starbucks - clearly I was missing out. I opted for the veggie platter, which came with all sorts of goodies: falafel balls, dolma, hummus, babaganoush, potatoes, and your choice of salad (I opted for tabuleh). All dishes are served with pita on the side. The falafel was SUPER crunchy - yum! No sogginess here, and clearly very fresh. Great flavor on the hummus and babaganoush, as well. Portions are perfect for one. Overall, a great spot for lunch! The tables outside are a nice touch for al fresco dining - the place was a bit stuffy indoors. Note: The veggie options are affordable ($7.99-$8.99), but the meat options are slightly on the pricier side ($14.99+) for this type of casual cafe restaurant.

Was craving a falafel wrap and decided to give this place a try (I did not look at Yelp reviews before coming here, biggest mistake EVER). I tried the falafel wrap and the bf's beef and chicken combo plate. Everything was super sour and disgusting. Worst Mediterranean food I've ever had! Also, I've had stomach complications for the past 5 days. I will never ask the bf to Yelp a place for me ever again.

Easily the best value for your money on Castro St. If you like Mediterranean food and are looking for a casual and inexpensive dining spot, the Grill House is your best bet. It's an order at the counter, seat yourself, uber casual, basic food kind of place, but the service is top notch and the food is tasty. In my book, the latter two are all that matter. At only $2.75 for a small bowl of Red Lentil Soup and a mere .50 cents per falafel, the food here is an incredible steal. I'm still in disbelief that I had a sizable meal for $4. Thats crazy. Other menu options include your standard Mediterranean meat/rice/veggie plates, kabobs, hummus, pita, dolmas, salads, and more. Meat plates top the menu at around $8. VERY inexpensive. The gentleman who helped me out was extremely nice, too. Great spot. Highly recommended for casual eats.

I ordered the kebob combo plate. The flavor was just ok, for the price I expected a bit more. The kebobs were tasty but nothing that dazzled my taste buds. The chicken could have been far more flavorful and the meat was bland and kind of dry. The basmati rice was boring, and the naan had that few days old taste to it. The hummus was good but then again I'm not paying $16 for good hummus am I? Over all this is a decent spot to eat but in my opinion outrageously priced. Most likely won't be coming back.

Outdoor seating is perfect for people gazing and enjoying the California sunshine. Umbrellas and outdoor seating. The baba ganouj is perfect and the cucumber salad e yogurt is the perfect side dish. Falafels are gluten free and 50 cents each or 12 for $5.

Today the salmon salad was divine. Delicately herbed and cooked perfectly: crispy edges, moist and tender inside. The spinach salad was perfect. Shredded carrot and some cheese for color, it was dressed perfectly. Enough dressing for flavor, just perfect.

More of a lunch place than dinner. I've been there for both. The wraps were good and reasonably priced at $7-$9. I had the chicken shwerma and it was deelish. Juicy and flavorful. The combo plates I thought was a bit pricy at $15-$19. Combo plates usually come with rice, hummus, and a little salad. Hummus was very good. Service for dinner was kind of slow. And they gave us someone else's plate initially. One other thing - we used a restaurant.com coupon that I paid $4 for a $10 certificate. Avoid that deal. Fine print states minimum purchase of $20 and a mandatory 20% gratuity. Total savings from restaurant.com - $2. Restaurant.com is a scam.

Got there a little late, around 9pm. I asked when they closed and they said 10, but clearly the place was folding up as the cooks were well into their cleanup. I ordered a beef-lamb shawerma wrap. It was just OK for me, needing more flavor. Anyhow, I thought it was OK until the last bite, when I dragged out a long piece of un-chewable fat from the wrap. If there is one thing I can't stand is having mystery meat in burritos or wraps, and places that don't pay attention to the quality of meat they use and use scrappy meat thinking people don't notice if they can't see it. I NOTICE. I was also disappointed that there was no one to ring up a dessert when I stood there at the register waiting for service. Don't see going back anytime soon, they don't care enough about their business.

Try the greek salad ummmm.. It was a little overpriced, but not to the point where it was completely absurd. Cute ambiance and their pita is HOT and served with a red pesto dip yummy.

I ordered #19, it's supposed to be a vegetarian dish, although the owner wouldn't tell me exactly what's in it but the picture looked good. It turned out to be a plate of rice with hummus, and some cold side salad. I was very disappointed with the dish as it was mostly rice (carbs which I was trying to avoid). There was another item on the menu that says "hummus dish", I wonder what the difference is with the two. I also ordered their yogurt drink, which is very liquidish, almost like water except with a taste of yogurt. These two items costed me $12, I don't think I'll go back there again.

Mediterranean Grill House is good! This small joint is kept clean and gives you their full attention since you will most likely be the only customers there. Service is fast and still gives quality food. My friends and I all had different wraps and enjoyed it for lunch. This is definitely a place you can come to fill your belly without feeling sleepy afterwards. Price is fairly reasonable: Wraps range from 6-10 $ while plates may cost a bit more.

I've had a few meals at this place and its not bad. The food quality was good and the portions were huge. The kabobs were fresh along with the other food. One time the server dropped a piece of the kabob off the plate and apologized with free desert. Sometimes when its busy the food can take a long time to come out so a quick lunch may not be in the cards.

Stopped in here the other day when I had an inkling for a ka-bob...only to be disappointed to find out they only have a beef/lamb combo ka-bob that I can't remember what its called. No can do...don't eat Mary Had A Little Lamb. Store front is very nice...inside leaves a lot to be desired. Ordering area is somewhat messy and less then what I would have expected for a place that looks so nice as you drive past it on Castro Street.

I love this place so much, I'm here at least once a week. I agree with other commenters, order the kebabs and you won't be disappointed. I have only tried the lamb and chicken kebabs, and they were excellent. The hummus is perfectly seasoned, and the meat always has a nice char on the outside with a juicy middle. The four sauces that come with the pita bread are amazing, especially the garlic butter sauce. That stuff would taste great on an old shoe. Come very hungry and expect a very casual, no-nonsense environment. I recommend calling ahead if you're in a rush; all kebabs are made-to-order and sometimes take extra long on the grill.

Been going to Mediterranean Grill House for lunch with friends & co-workers since the beginning of this year. They have one of the best falafel wrap and plate around. Not to mentioned their chicken or beef & lamb wrap combo are just delicious. I would give them 5 stars if not for the sometimes slow service during busy lunch times. They just need more cashiers and waiters/waitresses :-)

The best kabob wrap and the LENTIL soup is better than your granny every served. Shocked at the freshness cuz it looks kinda dankish.

Had this for the first time tonight. My husband and I both ordered the lamb and beef shwarma plates and they were great. The salad was full of great flavour, pita was soft, and the meat was very tasty. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try if you love med food. I will be back!

Another great lunch date with Flor and Yana....this place is really really good!!! The falafels are probably the best I have ever had. They are crunchy and flavorful without being dry. I had the falafel wrap and it was super tasty! I would order it again for sure. I look forward to trying everything on the menu and it's close to work for me so it makes it a quick stop or a nice hour lunch depending on my schedule. Service is friendly here and the lady working at the register is absolutely stunning and really nice. She knows the menu well and gives great recommendations for dishes. Will be back for sure!

Good place for a quick bite. The falafels are super crunchy on the outside and very moist and hot on the inside, just the way I like them! I also had the Feta Salad and it was a very generous portion with a nice balsamic dressing. You have to try the rice!!! Its is fluffy buttery and addictive. The ambiance could use improvement, not updated, kind of beat up, but it does the job. The staff is ok, but you might have to remind them about your food. Overall great food for the value and quick dining experience.

I enjoyed my dinner here and left feeling satisfied. The chicken was flavorful and there was plenty of rice and cucumber salad. It isn't a very charming atmosphere, I would imagine that it is geared more toward a lunch crowd, but the prices were high for the quality of food served. I would come back here, but would not call this my favorite place.

This place has the best falafel of the half-dozen places that I've been to in Mountain View; moist, and crispy - never crumbly. The Mujaddarah plate is also great, as are their garlic potatoes, lentil soup and baba ganoush. Another big plus is drink selection. They have a much larger variety of really good, high quality sodas (ginger ale, root beer, creme sodas, et al.) from multiple brands than any other lunch place I have been to. It's also worth mentioning that after getting take-out from here for over a year, I haven't had one incorrect order or missing item. They also open up for lunch early, which is great for those who like to beat the rush - and boy is there a rush after 12:00. The owner and his family are also nice.

My new Med fix! My whole family (who are experts in Middle Eastern food) gets take out from here at least once every other week. Myself included! What's cool is if you get a plate, it comes with your choice of a salad (tabouleh or cucumber/mint/yogurt) & choice of baba ghanoush or hummus. What to get: Chicken kebab plate - moist and tasty, and comes with a side of toum (AWESOME garlic sauce) Baba ghanoush - some of the best I've had Tabouleh - standard Kibbeh - standard Falafel - great! And they are always willing to give you extra pita, just gotta ask! If you're thinking of trying it out, don't wait!

I'm not an expert on Mediterranean food, but I enjoyed my quick lunch here. The first thing I noticed was that the menu was actually a screen. I was deciding what to eat and then I noticed a little icon on the upper right hand corner. Clean up unused icons??? Why would anyone print that on their menu?!? Oh.. haha, ok. I eventually ordered a lamb/beef wheat wrap, which seemed a little pricey ($8), but I guess that is what that costs. I was a little surprised how huge it was though when it came out. Also, I like how they cut their pickled veggies, it's quite artistic! The wrap was more than filling, but be careful when you're eating this bad boy. An orange oil drips out the bottom, don't let that get on your pants! There were some plates priced over $15, a little too much for me for an informal lunch, but I'll have to go back and try em sometime soon.

I got a Kebob Combo Plate with Hummus. The Hummus was quite good. The chicken kebob was ok. But the kufta kebob (mix of beef and lamb) tasted like the foul stench of death. If I could take a cartoon picture of it, there would be green fumes emerging into undead shapes. Rather than risk food poisoning, I threw it out.

My husband and I decided to try this place using a restaurant.com certificate. First of all, check the address. I guess they've moved because it says 650 Castro on some places online and something else Castro Street on others. We each ordered an entree and a drink, and the total came to $24 - $10 certificate = $14 plus tip. PROS 1. I got a #14. Can't remember what Hubby got, but I was very satisfied. Delicious meat on top of delicious rice with a side of some of the best hummus I've had in a long time. 2. Free soda refills. 3. Lots of menu choices. CONS 1. The soda machine was not working - we either got too much syrup or too much soda, but this is easily fixable. The only CON I can really list here is a personal preference. A young woman in a head scarf took our order while this young tall dude stood a few feet behind watching her. She handed us our change, but forgot to hand us our cups for soda. When we asked (we weren't mad or anything), he pushed her out of the way, gave them to us, then yelled at her in front of us. Later when we were eating, she changed the channel on the flat screen and he yelled at her again. People were staring! A-W-K-W-A-R-D! Otherwise, it was a good experience.

I wasn't much of a fan the first couple trips here for lunch. However, I've grown to like it a lot better. I usually share the House Special plate with my boyfriend for lunch. I prefer the chicken, yum! Overall the food is great. I'm not big on their Feta Salad Plate. The couple times I ordered it, I wasn't satisfied. The employees are very accommodating and very nice.

I love the Mediterranean Grill House. I've been here twice and I got the same thing both times, the Veggie Delight Plate. It comes with quite a few items and is very filling, particularly for the price (it's $8.99). I highly recommend it. As far as other things go, there's a fair amount of seating both indoors and outside. There is a menu online so you can see the prices and choices. Parking is generally fine on Castro - quite a few lots and side street parking, though it can get busy during peak hours. Everyone there was very friendly and the food was cooked to perfection both times I went there.

It stumps me that this place only got 3.5 stars. It's the best Mediterranean food I've ever had - at reasonable prices, too! (Trust me, I'm a huge fan of Mediterranean food.) I ordered the lamb and beef plate and falafel eggplant falafel wrap and let me say, it was very satisfying, to say the least. If I lived in Mountain View, I'd probably be here every week!

Chicken Shish Kebob Plate Tender marinated chicken breast kebob on skewer, charbroiled to perfection, served with rice and your choice of salad or hummus #18. So I finally walked into this place to see what was up. The cuisine was okay - I've had better and the pricing is so-so. I was pretty concerned when i saw 1 shiskabob (sorry for the spelling) was $6.99. Wow maybe I'm still living in the 90's. I got a falaphel wrap which set my butt on fire in no time. Needless to say if you're suffering from constipation - get the falafel wrap - ha ha.

Kufta kebab was OK, but not as juicy as it could have been. Rice and accompanying salad were decent, but food court quality. Falafel was a nice surprise, but it couldn't make up for the rest of the experience. Lamb shish kebab was pre-cooked, old, and smelly. I discarded most of it. If you want great koobideh / kebab at a fair price and great ambiance, it's worth the trek to Arya in Cupertino. Try it on a Friday night when there's live musical entertainment.

I do enjoy the food here greatly, the quality is great, the meats cooked perfectly. A nice simple meal, not much else to say. The costs can sneak up on you a bit, but the quality hasn't been cut back at all, so that makes me very happy.. (Seems that route has become all too common these days.) I have only 1 criticism, and everyone else that I go here with also notices this, it is too bright! The lighting is just a bit too intense, decreasing this would really make a difference in comfort for some.

I have been planning to try this place for a while. I finally gave it a try today. I ordered a chicken shawarma wrap. I was surprised when I was asked if I wanted wheat or spinach. I did not realize that the shawarma was served in a tortilla. So much for authenticity. My shawarma was ready in minutes. That was only thing good about it. The portion is generous but I didn't get to enjoy it. The meat in it tasted weird. They use a bad blend of spices. It was of course nowhere near a real authentic shawarma (I have not yet been able to find those in the US), but even as a chicken wrap it was not good. I don't think I'll be eating here again. Mediterranean Wraps in Palo Alto is not more authentic but it tastes a little better.

The only reason I am marking this 1-star is the attitude of the cashier/owner. Just because we have a groupon we don't get asked if we would like a drink? And we have to wait for her to point us where the glass for water would be? And we have to give a tip of 15% (for non-existent service), again just because we have a groupon?? She did not add tip for ANY other customer but she surely did for us without even asking. When we ask for more pita bread, we get pita bread without accompanying sauces? Huh, really? Is this the way to treat customers?? The food was good but I would never go back just because of this attitude.

...This just went from 3 to 4 1/4 stars! How I know you know it's really good is that you spill it on yourself (often) while you're tryin' to get it in your mouth! It's the kind of place where as soon as you order your food, you know it will take too long because you want the food NOW! My mouth starts to water when I walk near this place. Then when I've ordered and I have to wait (the very reasonable amount of time) for my food, I think I actually drool. I've even come upon this place when I wasn't hungry and found that my mouth watered. I had the Shawarma Wrap the last thee times I went here, it is wonderful. My companion had the Chicken Kabob wrap and I barely got a bite from her, it was so delicious. The menu is great, the prices are great, and the food is memorable. This is really a solid four stars. It's not the kind of place you'd drive your family straight from the airport to see, but if you're in the neighborhood and you haven't yet eaten, stop here! [update: we now officially drive from other neighborhoods - Santa Clara, Redwood City - to go to this place!] ---v

Not sure why this is rated as high as it is. Been there twice and each time was a bit disappointed. Falafel was average and the beef/lamb shawerma was not appetizing at all - overcooked with tough meat. It never really looks busy (walk by there a fair amount) and that's usually a red flag. Meh - try a different place down the street.

    (2)
  • Scott B.

For my first visit I chose the Beef and Lamb Shawerma Wrap. Very good, nice combination of flavors. Next time I think I'll go for the falafels and compare them with those from Falafel's Drive-In in San Jose.

I really wanted to like this place, because the staff is so friendly and the menu looked promising and true to Mediterranean cuisine, but overall, it was just okay food. The baba ghanouj tasted a little too commercial for my tastes and the hummus was just okay. The tabbouleh, to give them their due, was REALLY good and flavorful, which was the saving grace of my lamb shawarma plate, because both the meat and the rice were just okay. That being said, definitely give this place a try if you're looking for a quick Mediterranean meal and also if you want to try some kanafa, which is pretty much the best Middle Eastern dessert ever created.

This is my favorite Mediterranean place in the south bay. I used to live next door (Park Place South) and I would eat here at least once (sometimes even twice!) a week. Highly recommend the lamb & beef shawerma plate. Their meat is always quality, the rice and hummus are always very tasty. Their garlic sauce is fantastic!!! Totally worth the garlic breath you're stuck with later. :D

Came here with the family armed with a coupon from restaurant.com . Service was fairly cold. I wasn't a fan. The falafels were crunchy, but not flavorful. We got combo plates to try nearly every type of meat. It was only okay. Prices are not cheap. I kept wondering why it costs more than places in Berkeley and Fremont Tri-City area, and I realized that it's because Mountain View is more yuppie-ed out. Four stars for the lentil soup. Haven't been able to find a good California replacement soup since I got back from my Chicago trip and ate lentil soup at Sultan's. Overall, I left feeling that my meal was mediocre. Nothing quite stood out, service was lackluster, and and I found myself wishing I had spent my money at Mr. Kebab in Union City.

Cute location, friendly staff but only average food. While I usually prefer Gyros House a little further down Castro, I decided to give Mediterranean Grill House a go. I ordered the falafel wrap and the beef/lamb shawerma wrap to go. Both were fairly hefty for the price ($6 and $8 respectively). The wheat wraps were nicely grilled and the vegetables fresh. The falafel were pretty good and still fairly crunchy despite being in the wrap and the drive home, but I found the shawerma a little dry and not particularly tasty. The tahini sauce was pretty good, though a touch on the thin side for my tastes. Given what has been aid by other yelpers, I was surprised when I called in my order and was told it would be ready in 5 minutes. Wouldn't mind coming back for more, but I can't say that I'd come to Castro just for this place.

Went for lunch. Yummy hummus, babaganoush, tabouli. The cucumber yogurt salad is refreshing and the falafel balls taste fresh. Pita bread does not seem fresh, and was hard. Could also be a little more competitive in pricing as well. For a non sit-down restaurant... could have been a little cheaper.

Staff is friendly. Food is dry. We had the lamb and beef plate and the meats were dry. I had the fallafel plate and the fallafel (sp?) was dry too. The Mediterranean salad on the side was really good. The hummus is good too, however, hummus is hard to go wrong with. The walnut pastry is dry too! If they can somehow make all their foods a bit juicier, I would give them 3 stars. Also, if you're getting the plates, it's quite expensive for a cafeteria style restaurant. Plates average $9-17.

Foodie extraordinaire was craving mediterranean/middle eastern food so we decided to check out Mediterranean grill house, wayyy on the other end of Castro street. There's plenty of seating inside and outside the restaurant and the cashier lady was really nice. I ordered the veggie combo plate and thought it was OK - I'm not a huge fan of mediterranean/middle eastern food to begin with. The restaurant was clean and the portions are generous. I enjoyed the pita bread and dips that they provided.

Great place for a Mediterranean feast. The husband and I head here when we're really hungry. I usually have to take 1/2 the meat/rice home if I order plate - that's saying something - I do agree w/previous posts that it is oddly not as good the next day! We've eaten here about 8 times and tried several of the plates and wraps. Service is friendly, food is consistent (EXCEPT - falafel balls recently shrunk by 50% - not a good sign!), atmosphere is minimal/clean. They do have outside tables on Castro which can be nice depending on the weather. Salads are fresh, meat is of good quality - yes, there's not much pita provided - we've never needed more, however I get the feeling if asked for it would be provided gratis.

Came here earlier today in the afternoon for a late lunch. There was absolutely noone in the restaurant but the workers. Me and my friend opted for something new and here we were. The staff was so welcoming saying hello and such. We chose to sit inside rather than out. The decor in here is fun and traditional with garlic heads, wine, paintings, and photography all over the place. I had the Lamb Kebab with rice pilaf and grilled veggies. The lamb was so tasty and filling even though the portion looked really tiny. I ate everything off my hot plate and was super satisfied. The service is great, but I wouldn't fully know because we were the only ones there, and they catered to anything and everything we needed. Our waitress's name was Hedy and she was delightful and even recommended some options since it was our first time there. I would come back but probably only for late lunches since this place looks like it could be a hassle during busy times. Even so this place is really good if you're looking for lamb, kebabs, falafel or anything else like that.

The food at this place is absolutely amazing!!! Additionally, the service is great, and the owner and his daughter are very nice. It also seems that they recently renovated because the inside of the store looks very nice, and the pictures on yelp really don't do the place's interior justice! Hummus 4/5 Baba ghannuj 5/5 (Best I have had in the US) Falafel 5/5 (Best I have had in the US) Beef/Lamb Shawerma Wrap 4.5/5 Chicken Shawerma Wrap 4.5/5 So, all in all, food was great, service was great.... dinner was GREAT! I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Mediterranean/Arab food... and for that matter, to anyone who likes food, period.

The Mediterranean Grill House just reconfirms my love for lamb shwerma. This place has the friendliest and helpful people. As the two of us came her to conquer a feast of $35 since that was the restaurant.com gift certificate, we had to order that much. So we ordered 3 plates and sodas. The gentleman working was saying how he'd be so surprised if we even came close to finishing it. Overall the serving sizes are huuuge, we ended up having to box two half finished meals. The owners were very friendly and the food is great. Not too crowded in the late afternoon. I would definitely come back for more. Only note to remember is only order and eat what you can because left overs aren't as tasty as it is fresh, so you'd just end up throwing it away.

Excellent food. Great, fast service. I call in a lunch takeout order about once a week and it's ready for pickup in under 10 minutes. It takes longer to find parking, unfortunately. They hold takeout orders in a little mini-warming cabinet so that after you've circled for parking for 30 minutes, your food is still nice and warm. One complaint - the falafels are mini! They should tell you they are 1/2 falafels. Seriously, they are semi-circles. The other thing is that for lunch, it's not cheap. I just spent $15 on a chicken kebob plate. It's ginormous and I can probably save the rest for dinner, but I never do. I wish they had lunch specials (lower prices for smaller portions). But all in all, I highly recommend this place because the food is tasty and the service is friendly and fast.

I was in the area and starving while on a animal rescue mission and the hubby do a search on some good eats around here. We saw this place pop up, decent reviews so can't be that bad right? Well, I was wrong. We both decided to go with a wrap, I got the chicken and he got lamb/beef one. Now don't get me wrong, the wraps were HUGE, but pretty bland. I thought my chicken was dry and it didn't really have that nice yogurt dressing I love. My husband's, well it just didn't taste right. Anyway, the prices were decent, they did carry some other greek-like goodies one of which was the Turkish delight (although this one tasted a bit more like regular gel candy and didn't have the right consistency to be authentic. Overall, just average in taste but not a bad deal for the size.

Overview: The restaurant was sticky hot, cramped, and a little pricy for the quality of food. I will say though that it was crowded, so maybe no one else shares my opinion! Must Try: Haven't had anything I like. In fairness, the only thing I have had was the feta cheese salad with shawarma chicken, so I'm definitely not the authority on this restaurant! Stay Away: The chicken shawarma was just very different than the other Mediterranean restaurants I've been to... and I've been to many. First, it was dry and it had a cinnamon or allspice or some kind of flavor that I can't quite put my finger on. I did not like it at all. In addition, the feta salad had shredded iceberg lettuce with a weird, watery dressing. The whole thing was not something I'd want again... especially for $12. Bread: Dry, day (or two) old pita. Yuck. Service: Cold. Also, I had to ask twice for bread. It was bad, so I definitely could have skipped it! But still, I shouldn't have to ask twice for something that is supposed to be included.

This food rocked! After checking on Yelp, my friends and I went with the vegetarian plate and chicken shwarma (sp?). Although I ordered the veg plate, I ended up eating a bunch of my friends' chicken. It was really excellent. Their falafels are truly delicious...I could have eaten a whole plate of just falafels, pita bread, and hummus. The dulmas didn't really do much for me; I wished I had ordered just the falafel plate or the chicken shwarma. It is a bit pricy but it's worth it for organic chicken, beef, and lamb. I'm willing to pay a bit more (although it's pricy it is definitely NOT exorbitant) for that. Also, everything is halal so the animals were also killed as "humanely as possible." And, yes, I see the irony in that. But still, it tastes good. :)

I ordered the beef kabab koobideh wrap and HD ordered the chicken wrap. Both were very good. For appetizers we order Kibbeh which came out when we were almost done with our wraps. . YUm Yum Yum. 4 stars for the food. I had a restaurant.com coupon which resulted in extremely icy service from the young lady at the counter. They tacked on 15% service charge, what service? We ordered our food at the counter, we got our own drinks, napkins, and silverware, picked up our food when they called out that our food was ready. Had to get up remind them that we got our wraps but haven't gotten the Kibbeh and finally when we were done cleared our own table. Where was the service?

Great falafel wrap! I requested no tahini or yogurt sauce, and this is one of the very few places that actually takes out the sauce! The wrap itself is huge, comes in a wheat like wrap, it's got a brown marble color, and is stuffed with four falafels, lettuce, and tomato. I ate the whole thing, it was so tasty. Also came with a couple interesting pickles. My friend ordered the falafel plate and liked her dish as well, it came with 6-8 falafels, salad (cucumber yogurt), hummus, and bread with dipping sauce. Friendly staff, and fast!

Some average mediterranean fast food. The hummus is solid. Falafel is crunchy and not too greasy, though I prefer brown falafel to the green ones found around here. The chicken shwarma (plate) is also probably my favorite option here.

I love me some shwarma! It's tasty stuff and this here's one of the best places to get one in the area! Is it the right place at the right price? It's pretty close. I liked the kufte quite a bit, and it was in-line with a lot of other places around that serve the stuff and aren't nearly as good. The sizes are big, which is a giant plus for those of us who just eat a lot. The Chicken, whcih I only had a bite of, made me wish I'd ordered it. The Service was OK. Not too bad, but they got a little busy and we were lost in the din, I guess.

This restaurant has become our latest haunt and my stomach growls just at the thought of it! From the very first time we ate there, my boyfriend and I commented on how friendly and polite the staff is (I believe it is a family run business). Their service has always been extremely prompt and food arrives fresh, hot and aesthetically pleasing. Our favorite meal so far is the beef/lamb schwerma plate. The meat smells heavenly and melts in your mouth. The flavor is far from bland yet not overpowering. The portion is MORE than enough. The hummus is some of the best I have tasted. I love the cucumber yogurt salad on the side while my boyfriend loves the mediterranean salad. Both are very flavorful and don't last long on the plate. The basmati rice is fragrant and cooked perfectly. I have also tried the chicken schwerma. The flavor isn't as, well, flavorful as the beef/lamb (which I figured would be the case) but the flavor was nice and the chicken was very tender. The falafel was super tasty and good size. Nice and crisp on the outside and fluffy and steaming on the inside! The kufta kabobs are really big, so ordering the plate with just one should be more than enough (I learned my lesson!) I feel that the flavor of the schwerma vs the kufta is better, but not by much. Either way, they were both delicious. I am slowly making my way through all the items on the menu. I appreciate the big screen menu with pictures of the various meals, as I am not always sure just by name alone. And it is always nice when the plate I receive looks just as good, if not better than what is up on the menu!! We love this place so much, we eat there at least once a week. I work as a nanny and the 3 year old I care for LOVES this place as well. She eats like a champ everytime I take her there. We always see a variety of people eating at the Mediterranean Grill House: families, young couples, biz people in for a quick bite, older couples, and all colors of the rainbow. On our last visit, half a boys little league baseball team and their parents were settling in for lunch and the boys couldn't be more excited to get their food! The prices aren't the cheapest, but worth the price. You get delicious food in large portions, along with great customer service! We'll be back again soon!!

I used to live in Germany and I'm addicted to Doener Kebabs and kebab platters. Juicy tender melt-in-your-mouth meat with a delicious creamy and potent garlic sauce with raw onions sometimes even goat cheese mixed in. Unfortunately, this schwarma wasn't remotely as tasty :-(. Hummus: pretty good. Bread: just a little bit crisp, nicely fresh. Meat? Dry dry dry. I knew I was in trouble when I couldn't really tell the lamb from the beef in this beef-lamb schwarma plate. What a disappointment! Granted, the service was decent and the price reasonable for the amount of food (it was a very large platter, so for $10 you could quite possibly feed two not-famished people). But there's something wrong when the meat I get from a frozen dinner is more juicy and flavorful than the meat from a restaurant :(. Hence, 2 1/2 stars, rounded down to two.

Checked out this relatively new place on Castro St. Really good food at reasonable prices. We shared the special wrap and the kabob. Both were cooked just right, and the tastes were accented by a great spice variety. Many specialties on the menu. Others loved the falafel wrap and chicken kabob. Service was very good and friendly, and the place was nice and clean. A great stop on your way eating up and down Castro St.

I love this place. All the kebabs are cooked fresh and are made from super high quality meat. The chicken is fantastic. Unlike some other kabab places in the area they do not have any funky pieces on their chicken. I am a white guy, I like my meat null and void of mystery/edge trimmings. The lamb and beef is the perfect blend, not to much lamb as to over power the taste of the beef. I love the fact they also offer spinach wraps; a nice change from the dry flat bread of most places in the area. Falafel's are also amazing. Get a few to nibble on, you won't regret it.

I finally ventured down here last night after reading a number of the positive reviews. Though typically the 'Gyro House' is my go to joint, I decided to mix it up a little bit. It was surprisingly busy for 9:00 on a Saturday...cue Billy Joel... I kid. I kid. Anyways, I wasn't too adventurous, opting for the Chicken Kabob wrap, while the bf went for the shawerma wrap. We also sprung for a side order of hummus a a few pieces of falafel. Obviously, my eyes were way bigger than my stomach, because I could hardly finish the wrap. This isn't to say the food isn't tasty, because boy is it ever. The chicken, organic all the way, was perfectly cooked and tender, not dry as it so often has a tendency to be. The shawerma was also deliciously moist and so flavorful. The pickles, which I've never had anywhere else, were an awesome touch. Though skeptical at first, they've won me over for sure. The hummus was a little on the lemony side for my tastes, but that's just a matter of preference and it didn't stop me from devouring more than my fair share of the very generous order. I didn't get to the falafel until lunch today, and while it was still tasty, I'll reserve final judgment until I can eat it piping hot. All in all, this gets a total thumbs up and is a welcome addition to the downtown scene.

Came here for the first time with a couple of co-workers. I'm not terribly familiar with Mediterranean food, so I pretty much copied what they ordered and ended up with the beef and lamb shawerma plate (#10). I hated garbanzo beans as a kid and hadn't really tried hummus before, so I was surprised when I ended up liking the hummus. The Mediterranean salad was also good. And of course, meat and rice is always a winner for me. All in all, the food was pretty good. Sure, it was more than $10 for my lunch, but there was quite a bit of food there. I can't say whether this is the best Mediterranean food ever or not because I'm totally new to this, but it's a good place to go for lunch if you're in the area. If you haven't tried Mediterranean either, don't be afraid to give this place a shot.

I'll be honest: I consider myself an expert in the falafel/hummus category. I've eaten falafel late night in Israel at the best insider joints. I know where to find the best tahini in Mountain View. I'm critical of the acidity, the salt, everything. Having said this - this is my best pick in the Mountain View area for falafel and hummus, and shwarma. The salads are fresh (vast comparison from the other place down the street). Service is grateful and friendly, and very neighborhood-like. I visited this place for the first time 6 days after it opened, and was offered to try anything I liked, from the falafel to the meat to the salads. Very nice. I would like to give this place many more chances indeed.

The staff is friendly, but I don't think that much of the wraps. I suppose it's neat that they offer both spinach and whole wheat wraps, but the meat has a similar flavor to that of Med Wraps in Palo Alto. Probably has something to do with coriander, but I don't have the words to describe my palate. Nevertheless, I think the flavor of this place is more similar to Med Wraps, whereas Gyros House tastes more like Gyros Gyros.

Had the lamb lunch plate....I'm a big fan of lamb and it was so good here. Juicy and flavorful. My wife had a lamb wrap and that was equally has good. There is outdoor dining which is very nice on a sunny day. Mediterranean food is pricey in general in seems though, and this place was no exception. Pricing seems a big more on the higher end compared to other Mediterranean restaurants that I've been too.

I have been to Mediterranean Grill House few times and I must say that the customer service is amazing. Some of the red meat are dry but I love the chicken shawarma which is tendered and juicy. The owner is very well respected person in the community and volunteer at a local mosque. I had a the $25 gift cert from Restaurant that is valid only with $50 purchase and since my other friends has not arrived yet, they allow me to pay when everyone has ordered their food so I get to use the cert.

My friend and I love eating here We love the friendly service. We get recognized instantly and although there maybe a mad rush for lunch we get our plates served to us with in 10 mins... we usually order the same thing beef/lamb shawerma plate mine wtih no rice, baba and mediterranean salad. the other with rice, hummus and mediterranean salad. I love the hot sauce too Just great food , excellent service and nice atmosphere you can even sit outside and enjoy the weather I love that they have Lemonata to drink and my friend gets a little cute bottle of Martinellis apple cider

Went here for the first time last week. I was expecting a mediocre beef and lamb gyro but was pleasantly surprised. The gyro was actually in a tortilla-like wrap but it definitely worked well. Also, there was a good amount of beef and lamb in the wrap. And, the wrap and a drink costs under $10.

For my graduation party, we had Mediterranean Grill House cater lunch. We ordered different kinds of wraps, falafel, dolmas, the cucumber salad, and hummus. The ordering and picking up process was easy. The food was a hit with the guests. It was a little pricey, but made for an easy party.

We went there around 4 on a Friday. The service was great. We had the veggie delight plate and the mujaddarah. Both dishes were fresh and flavorful. The turkish coffee to wash it down was pretty good. Strong yet smooth and just the right amount of sweetness.

I'm a bit confused by the review that said that they weren't seated. This is one of those buy the food first then find your own seat kind of deals. You don't get seated here. And the staff was super nice so I don't know what that reviewer's problem was. Anywho, I ordered the beef lamb shawerma plate with the cucumber yogurt salad and baba ganoush and my fiance got the chicken shawerma plate with the mediterranean salad and baba ganoush. The meat is pretty good and I'm glad that they get organic chicken and naturally raised beef and lamb. It puts my Whole Foods loving heart at ease. The portions were pretty well sized - I have enough for tomorrow's lunch. They also serve each meal with some pitas (of course), and they were nice and warm. In the words of the Governator - I'll be back.

One day after work I came here with my friend LuLuBean Princess because he didn't want to have another Whole Foods trip with me! Boo! Anyway, the service was friendly. I really do think it's a nice mom and pop sorta shop. Most of the owner's family members were just sitting there hanging out. Very friendly and sincere people :) So I don't really know the difference between types of meat some people can eat and others can't. But supposedly they serve meat everyone can eat? Sigh..I don't remember the exact terms. But yea, the meat is yummy! I thought the prices were a little high (House of Gyro is a bit cheaper). They haven't really grown into the place yet. It looks decent but still half and half. Seems they are going for the more upscale (well not Thea at SR of course) but then have a little bit of a Falafel House vibe going on. It was sorta odd. Onto the food, yummy! Hummus wasn't that great. I'm a hummus freak (eat it almost everyday with tabouleh but without falafel or pita - my diet secret!!) and this hummus was just average. Shwarma was alright but my lamb was way better! 3 stars for now..will update after another visit.

Hands-down best falafel wrap. As I am vegetarian I have not tried any of their kabob plates. I always get the spicy falafel wrap with a spinach tortilla and I have also tried their hummus. They serve the best green falafel balls that is crispy without being greasy and not at all soggy. I usually end up eating the whole thing (bad, bad BAD I should only eat half...) but it should be enough for 1 1/2 meals (though the sauce tends to make it soggy if you wait to eat it). For $6-7 for a wrap the pricing is on par with other lower-end restaurants on Castro. Whenever I want a filling, delicious, and easy to eat meal I get the falafel wraps here or the burritos at La Bamba. The female cashier who works here always has a slightly impatient attitude/tone but the man who I guess is the owner or manager is always very friendly. I usually come here before my afternoon shift on weekdays so it's usually pretty empty. The restaurant itself is very clean with plenty of outdoor seating.

My coworkers LOVE this place, I'm not sure why. Personally, I'm not a huge fan but I can't give it a two because I haven't experienced better places haha. Usually, I'm big on bland food (I've been told this many times) but I just wasn't that into the stuff here. The service is nice, the prices are cheap but it just doesn't hit the spot. But if you are a big fan of Mediterranean food, maybe this will do it for you because I don't know anyone who doesn't this place. Except me.

Amazingly good food (I come here at least once every couple of weeks) and really nice staff. The chicken kabob plate with hummus and Mediterranean salad is to die for, particularly when you add copious amounts of their magical garlic paste. Don't forget to get a coupon from restaurant.com for $10 off (I wait till the 80% off sales and pay .50 for them). Mmm, I'm hungry.

Yes! Finally a new restaurant on Castro Street in Mtn View other than Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese or Mexican ! The falafel here is awesome and the hummus and cucumber salad is excellent. Looking forward to ordering for pick up in the future. Great service and a nice change to my regular eats in downtown Mtn View.

You know this place is pretty good. It's in a convenient spot. It's got good hours. (I think on Sundays it even closes at 11). The people inside are really nice and friendly. I ended up getting the beef lamb shawerma plate. It was pretty good and came out fast. Had lots or rice and hummus served with it too. They had a little selection of pastries but I had to resist as I was quite full after my meal. The setup is pretty nice too. Sort of like a diner but not a greasy spoon. I will return :)

Went there for the first time this month at the invitation of some friends who were going there for dinner with their 3 young children (6, 6, and 4). We shared everything family style. Baba Ghanoush - awesome, smokey flavor from the roasted eggplant Falafel - best I have *ever* had, even the 4 year old loved them Pita - fresh and warm, good Chicken and lamb kabob plate with rice - very good, moist, I am not usually a fan of lamb but this did not have that mutton-y taste so I quite liked it Hummus - good service - good, friendly Will definitely go back for those falafels alone and to try other dishes. Update: I went back there recently with a friend and unfortunately the food was not all as good, so they aren't consistent and we were a little disappointed. The chicken on the kabob was very dry and the baba ghanoush wasn't as good as the first visit. Maybe it depends who cooks. The falafels were still outstanding and this time I tried their tabouleh which I really liked. For now, I'm knocking a star off the rating I originally gave, from 4 to 3.

This place is pretty good. The owner was very attentive, friendly and kindly explained why my orders took a long time to arrive. He must have noticed that I look a little upset coz the couple who ordered after me got their orders first.. I really wanted to give them a 1 or 2 star yelp rating then. I had ordered chicken kabab and he said he had asked his cook to change the meat to bigger chunks coz the one that they had prepared for me were small and he emphasized that they use organic halal chicken. Great excuse I thought . Anyhow, the lentil soup was great, my chicken kabab was juicy, chicken shawerma plate turns out okay and the salad was simple & nice, the hummus didn't blow me away. I wish they would add more spice or seasonings to the kababs and shawerma though. I would probably try their food again if I'm in Castro, Mtn View but will not drive all the way just to eat their kababs. I'm giving them 3.5 stars.

My favorite Mediterranean place in Mountain view. I always get the falafel wrap (sometimes with eggplant), and my husband gets a chicken or lamb wrap. You can choose the wrap (standard, spinach - my favorite, or tomato). Convenient, open more flexible hours than most places on Castro which close between lunch and dinner, good prices, and delicious. I know other people who like gyro house, but their falafel always seems to be soggy and not very flavorful. So for falafel, I go with Mediterranean Grill House On another note, the layout of the tables is poor as there are long tables rather than smaller individual tables. So you have to squeeze around people to sit down, and essentially you share the same table with random people. The outside tables are nice though.

Love this place and eat here often. I love the veggie delight plate so much I just can't bring myself to order anything else--try it! Ok I have tried the chicken kabob off someone else's plate and that was good too; tender and succulent.

  • Kathleen J.

The falafel plate was okay, but left me still hungry. Went with a "groupon" thinking it would about cover our lower-cost choices, but we had a substantial additional amount to pay, in part because tip was automatically though we ordered at a counter and had to get our own water and table settings. Maybe the place was just overpriced because it's on Castro, but for the money we spent, I expected more, and wouldn't go back again. A clean but not inviting atmosphere -- it was one of those places that seemed deliberately designed to make you want to eat and leave quickly.

I've definitely experienced better than this. Falafel is not any exceptionaly good. Infact, unlike some other falafel places, these guys dont have any specific hot sauce which you should or must have. I would still prefer going to Falafel bites on Lawrence expressway anytime. Location is good though. Also the baklava at this place was really good. So I would say, whatever you have , definitely go for baklava at the end.

I was ignored for almost ten minutes trying to order when I first walked in. The kebob combo was $14. For take-out in a styrofoam container. The ambiance is nice, yet they have one of those movable-lettering signboards on the wall. Strange. Food was great, but should have been about 30% cheaper. Service was friendly, but really slow. Really, really slow.

I was greeted promptly with a friendly "hello, how are you?" and that was probably the highlight of the visit. I ordered a chicken shish kabab and I had to wait about 15 mins. for it to get to my table. When it got there, it wasn't hot... baffling... oh well... maybe it'll still taste great... eh... mediocre at best. For $9, I definitely was not wowed. However, I have to give to them the place is sparkling clean and fairly new. I may have to give it a second try when they've got a little more experience under their belt.

We wanted falafels and thought we'd give this place a shot. We hadn't yet found our go-to place for Mediterranean and honestly when we walked in, my hopes weren't too high... However, the falafels were fresh and tasty with a nice crunch to them. Our food was very fresh. My bf polished off a falafel wrap and another wrap with beef and lamb. I thought maybe the wrap wouldn't be enough for me so I also ordered the feta salad (currently in the fridge b/c I'm full). So, with that said, we'll def be back and try some other items on the menu... I do prefer this place to House of Falafel in Cupertino and Falafel Drive In in SJ.

The only reason I didn't give this place 4 stars was b/c the lack of quickness in terms of service. But the food was pretty damn good to tell you the truth --I went there for lunch with my g/f and ordered the chicken kabob wrap on wheat. I was really happy that they had wheat especially for someone who's a gym rat. My g/f ordered chicken shewerma and she enjoyed it as well --I also had some hot sauce on the side and it definitely has a kick to it so be careful not to put too much on it if you can't handle the fire! --I would definitely go back to this place. I just wouldn't go there if it was packed due to the slow service

Best Mediterranean food I've eaten by far. Lamb and Chicken Kebabs are heavenly, tahini sauce with the lamb is wonderful, and the hummus is the best I've ever had by leaps and bounds. I was hooked on this place and ate their at least once a day for over a month when I first found it. Highly recommended.

YUM! I went here for lunch and the Falafel plate was very tasty! The Falafel had a great texture and were pretty big. I only wish they were a little spicier but I like spicy things that's just my own preference. The Greek salad was fresh and yummy. LOVED the Dolmas, they were fresh and fantastic!

Mediterranean Grill House is one of our "go to" restaurants when we don't feel like cooking and want "real" food. It's quick, convenient, and delicious. i usually get their vegetarian plate - I am a nut for falafel and hummus! My husband often gets one of their grilled chicken plates. Also wonderful. This is not a fancy place - but it's awesome when it's warm & you can sit outside on their patio!

Chicken shawerma wrap was absolutely packed solid with chicken (and good); if I hadn't been on my bike I would have definitely saved half and had another meal. My companion had the Veggie Delight plate with falafel, hummus, baba ghanouj, etc. which were all delicious.

The Mediterranean Grill House is a great little family owned restaurant, located off Castro St. in Mountain View. The food is good and the portions are large, which in my mind balances out price that you pay. At first I thought it was a bit expensive but I could never eat an entire plate, so I started sharing my plate so none of my food would go to waste. So if you have someone to go with, share a plate and split the cost. You will end up paying 5 to 8 dollars a person, depending on what you get.

came here for dinner on a thursday evening and thought it was really good. I had the combo kebob plate. on kebob was chicken and the other was kufta. i usually don't get chicken since it tends to be dry but the chicken was actually really juicy and good. the kufta was also really good. i liked how the plate came with rice, hummus, and a choice of salad plus pita bread on the side. i chose the tabouli salad and thought it was really good. i think the plate was $14.99 which seems about par with other restaurants in the area albeit maybe a dollar or two more. portions were big - i finished the chicken kebob but took most of hte kufta home along with a lot of the rice and hummus. they also have some interesting sauces on the side - extra tahini and some kind of garlic paste/sauce. the service was a bit slow - we ordered and it took about 15 minutes for our food to come out. some friends came later and their food came out about the same time as ours so not sure what happened there.. maybe there were trying to serve our group together? overall, solid Mediterranean food.

Two days in a row I went here for lunch. The falafel wrap was very good, with lots of vegetables and tasty falafel and hummus. The wrap itself was pretty generic. The shwarma plate was delicious. They have an interesting spice mix on the meat and rice. Cinnamon and I don't know what else. The baba ganoush tasted good but looked a little gluey. It seems a little pricey, especially for lunch, but you're getting restaurant-quality food. Also, the plates are definitely enough food for two.

I stumbled across this place as I love middle eastern food and prefer Halal. The falafel is excellent and it is rare to fund such high quality in the bay area. I thought the meat dishes were overpriced. For example $13.99 for chicken shawerma for lunch. Halal meat is not really more expensive than regular meat especially in bay area where there a good number of Halal butchers. I would go back but wish they would lower the meat prices. If they had a lower price lucnch menu they would get many more customers.

It's big plus is nice and helpful stuff. But the food is just horrible. The meat is tasteless, I dont know where they get their veggies from, I imagine they buy them in a aluminum cans, but the just taste disgusting. There is nothing mediterannian about this place except tall middle eastern folks who work there lol.

This place gets 3 stars because their falafels are great. I enjoyed the vegetarian plate. Also ordered a plate of koshari. Loved this when I visited Egypt, but this is not the same dish. It was ok, but this really should be a side order of rice. The baba ganoush was not too good--stick with the hummus. If I'm getting a quick take out of shwarma, I'd go to Gyro House. But, I'm sure that I'll be back for the falafels!

As far as Mediterranean fast food goes there are plenty of popular places around the bay area around every block. They are all about the same give or take a few points. This place is one of those that drags my wife and I all the way from San Jose for their delicious food. As a matter of fact after having tasted the same swarmas/falafels/gyros at numerous places from the east coast to the west, I couldn't help myself but complement the owner for amazingly different the taste. They told me their ingredients are all organic and best quality unlike almost all Indian/Chinese places that use the cheapest meats and poultry. Now that really made sense and I couldn't agree more about the the low quality of ingredients used at the aforementioned restaurants. Try it to beleive it!!! I rest my case.

Dont know who is rating this place high.. we went by the yelp reviews and found this place to be utterly an excuse for good Mediterranean food. The sauces were watered down, the meat was tough, even the bread (wrap) tasted like it was a week old. Sorry, I don't get the high reviews..

Came here with some friends who had a $25 Restaurant.com gift cert. (have to purchase $50 worth of food to use the coupon). This place was really good. I didn't taste anything I didn't like. I lived in Michigan close to the dearborn area so I had great bouts with Middle Eastern Food... This place has never disappointed me! The hummus and their plates are savory! This place is kinda of a hole in the wall but seats a good number of people. I usually get the lamb and beef plate and mix my rice and hummus. FANTASTIC! The ladies at the counter are really friendly and give you some suggestions if you do not know when to order. This place is a must especially if you are into swarmas and kabobs!

The worst shawarma I've ever eaten! :( Ok, I am from Turkey so I am a bit picky about shawarma but .. I've eaten it many times in the US as well, and this was the worst ever! I went there with my 5 yr old son for lunch today and unfortunately food was such a disappointment. We got beef shawarma. I am not sure what kind of beef it was! I've not seen such a thing before. You cannot chew it, let alone swallow it. Not sure about other kinds of foods they are offering but considering they managed to mess up shawarma this much, I am not hopeful about other items on the menu either. I don't think I'll give their food another chance.

Went here for lunch for the first time. Order the lamb kabob plate. Rice was well cooked and they us Basmati rice, meat was well done and very good. The humus was amazing. Yogurt sauce was so so. The cucumber pieces were cut too big and I prefer small pieces

I have a hard time trusting a place that puts its menu on photographic display and for good reason. The food you receive never looks as it does in the photos --- in fact, it often looks worse! In the case of the Meditteranean Grill House, the food didn't photograph well meaning it looked better in person. The problem was it tasted mediocre. And here you have the problem with this place, everything about it was mediocre. There was simply nothing special about it that I could see. Hubby adds that the portions were small and the prices high. ($14 for chicken and rice? Come on!) Mediocre for a Silicon Valley price simply doesn't cut it.

  • Melissa Y.

Tried the feta cheese salad today. At 5.99 it's one of the least expensive things on the menu. I like that all their plates come with pita bread but I still feel like they're doing something wrong with the flavors. Everything is a bit watered down - the hummus, the babaganoush. Not sure why. The difference between mediocre hummus and great hummus has nothing to do with ingredients. It's all about the distribution. A little more garlic, a little less lemon juice and I think they'd be in really good shape.

Falafel and hummus were pretty good (falafel was a little harder on the outside than ideal but tasty). The meats were disappointing, though; I tried everything - the chicken kebob, kufta kebob, beef & lamb skewer chicken shawerma, and lamb shawerma, and they were all universally lacking in flavor. Most were too dry, too, with the exception of the chicken kebob. Service was hit or miss - while a man who seemed to be the owner was very helpful, the woman taking orders and bringing out food seemed to be pretty confused much of the time.

This place has earned itself a solid spot in my food rotation. This place serves up consistent food with friendly service during the 7-8 times I have visited. I've only ever gotten ONE order from this place. But they always do it perfectly. The good: I only ever get the lamb kebab plate. The rice is the best white rice I have ever had in my entire life. I don't know what it is that they do to their rice, or what kind of special magic rice that they use. But it's amazing, and I get cravings for it all the time when I'm not in CA. The bad: The only food related downside is you have to remind them to make your lamb orders medium-rare. Or they will cook it well-done.. I don't know who taught them that you're supposed to cook lamb well, or if it is a cultural thing or what. But it's been my experience that lamb is by default served medium rare. This place thinks it's supposed to be served by default well-done. Just tell them to make it medium rare, and it comes out medium rare. Even when I forget to request medium rare, the meat is never tough or chewy or hard. Even in it's disgusting well-done state (the dish isn't disgusting at all, I just HATE well done on anything but hamburgers.) The service is uhm...well...splotchy. Some nights it's really good, usually when the older guy is taking orders. He always remembers my order, and after living in Mountain View for 6 months and visiting this place at least twice a week, I would have expected one of the women at the register to remember me or my order. Guess not? Some nights I feel like I'm bothering the girl taking the orders. They're never rude to me or any other customer, they just seem like they HATE working there and it shows on their faces. They have never taken it out on a customer that I've seen, though. And EVERY NIGHT, no matter WHAT I am wearing, the kitchen/cooking staff is checking me out. One time I came in after it was raining, no make up, hair frizzy, ugly sweat jacket with stains all up on it, loose fitting jeans and a crappy raincoat. And the kitchen staff was still staring me down? Seriously guys? I just want to eat my food, not feel like I'm a stripper from Crazy Horse or something. I think they have heaters for outside seating, but I don't think they've ever been turned on if they were there. I could have been thinking of the ones outside of Don Giovanni's. All and all it's a great place to eat right before close, at about 8. Just for the rice :)

We order 3 baklava cost us almost $6.38. Also their baklava is terrible not enough walnuts in there taste like a crap. Definitely not coming back.

The lamb kebab is awesome! As is the house specialty, the humus plate with shredded chicken or lamb. The servings are big so u won't go hungry, and the meats are super fresh and "organic" as possible.

The best wraps in the area! The falafel is good and the ingredients are fresh. You can choose regular wrap bread or spinach. The only mediocre side is the humus.

I am not sure I understand where all the good reviews are coming from. But I learned there are TWO Mediterranean Grill on Castro St., one is 3xx Castro, and this one is 650 Castro. Two entirely different restaurants. The 1st one is a traditional sit-down place with waiter service, wine, etc, and the food is good. The 2nd one is more like a deli-style. I wonder if some of the good reviews here is really supposed to be for the 1st one. In any case, I went to 650 Castro this weekend with my wife. We were not impressed with the food at all. For a deli-style, the food was overpriced. I had the #4 wrap. It was mostly wrap; seriously, not even fillers like lettuce and tomatoes. My 1st bit was pretty much all wrap, and I am not a small biter. For $8, I would have expected a few more morsels of meat. The few bits of meat there were, however, did taste pretty good. But jeez....$8. My wife had the Veggie Delight Plate. It was okay, but you do get more for the money than the wrap. We made the mistake of ordering the hummus and Baba Ghannuj on the side - didn't see that these come with the Veggie Delight anyway. That was our fault, but I would imagine they would have said something when we ordered. In any case, the hummus tasted overly sour - like too much lemon or something. We won't be coming back again.

I tried it for the first time last night. Having being traveled extensively in Europe. I had my doubt whether this will be an authentic Mediterranean food. To my great surprise, the food was excellent. I had Chick Pea with Chicken. The flavor was great, a bid spicy, chicken was moist. It came with a salad, I chose Beat Salad. It was delicious. For the price, i think it was great value. They also had yummy dessert. I am thinking about going back for lunch already. As I told my friend, to discover this restaurant was a pleasant surprise. I already know what I am going to try next time. Salmon Pasta.

I've been to this place at least 10 times...great food and excellent service. It's fast, prompt, and they know how to please customers. The chicken kabob wrap is very good. Not a great data place because it is very well lit but it is friendly.

My beef-lamb wrap was good, filling, and tasty, but my date's shawarma had gristle in it. I've never seen shawarma with gristle - I didn't even know that was possible. But the hummus was nice, the pita was fresh, and tahini paste accompanied and went well with everything. They also had a nice selection of beverages, both of local and Middle Eastern variety.

upgrading to 5 stars because i think about this place so much. I think i could eat here a couple times a week and still not get sick of the veggie platter.

I had a chicken gyro wrap, and it wasn't good at all. The chicken had a real funny taste to it. Usually I'll still try to eat something if I'm really hungry, like I was that night, but I ended up throwing it away it was so bad. I gave it an extra star though because the employees were very nice and pleasant.

I went with a large group and we decided to order family-style. This allowed us to get a taste of quite a few items on their menu. Everything was really delicious. The falafel might have been a little over-fried, but it was still good. Their shawermas are all really tasty too. Service was warm and personable, despite that it's more of a fast food joint. We sat outside and yet, the owner constantly came out to check if we wanted more pita or needed anything else. I would definitely go back to Mediterranean Grill House again.

Pretty good falafel for Castro St. A little pricey for what you get in the vegetarian department, considering I tend to be hungry in a few hours of having lunch there. I've learned that I have to supplement my vegetarian delight dish with a four extra falafel for a total of $12 to get full - for that, I could get two falafel sandwiches at the Falafel Drive In in SJ and be MUCH more full. However, with a hummus, baba ghannuj, falafel (not including the extra ones I ordered), potatoes, and salad, it certainly had variety; there just needed to be more of everything. Not quite the "delight" I was hoping for, but perfectly passable for convenient Castro St.

Awesome hummus and chicken, my new favorite restaurant in downtown Mountain View. There was some confusion with our order so they made it up to us with complimentary tea. Really nice people.

This is an update. We got some take out yesterday - the combo three meats and lentil soup. The meat wasn't fresh -all three, the soup was too lemony. I'm not going to go back.

The folks here are really friendly and the food is fantastic. I love hummus and these guys deliver. I also highly recommend the lamb kebab wrap. One star off for slightly slow service. This is now my de-facto Mediterranean joint in Mountain View.

I picked the place. I ordered #8 The Falafel Plate, Friend A ordered #16 Kabob Combo plate and Friend B ordered #9 Chicken Shawerma Plate. My first experience of falafel was a delicious one. I was hungry so of course it finished every single morsel on my plate. Unfortunately I was still hungry. Friend A was like try the chicken kabob so it did it was great. Friend B said im full you can have my Chicken Shawerma. MAN I should have gotten a #9. It was SOOOOoooo good. Some of the best chicken & rice i've ever had. And hummus too? I GOTTA go back for more.

Nice addition to the local kebab selections. I'm not a great fan of falafel, but the ones I've sampled here are quite tasty. The salads are fresh and tasty, and the hummus is delicious. The chicken is either a little overly seasoned for my taste, or I'm not a huge fan of the particular seasonings used, but everything else I've tried has been good.

Came here with a Groupon, but would come back without one -- it was some of the best Mediterranean food I've had in the bay area. I had a beef/lamb schwarma plate and my husband had a kebab plate, and both servings were extremely generous (I had enough leftovers for lunch, which is always a bonus). The meat was succulent and well-spiced without being greasy, and the hummus was bright and tangy as it should be. Even the cucumber salad was nicely done with really crisp chunks of vegetables and fresh lemon juice. A good find on Castro Street, even if it is a little bit of a walk from the main cluster of restaurants.

The best Lebanese style Mediteranean food on the peninsula! I come her quite a bit with friends and it's consistantly great. We recently had the Shawerma, tabouleh, and kibbe, everything was spot on! The falafels are a favorite with us as well. We've never been disappointed with the quality of the food. The hummus, baba ghannuj, and kebobs, everything is consistantly great!

It's pretty good, not great, but it's got potential. I do like the outdoor seating and the service is definitely friendly. I got a mixed platter of the chicken as well as the lamb/beef shwarma and both were a little dry. I was excited to see that they fry their falafel balls fresh and that alone is under-appreciated art around here, so going back for that alone mertis another visit. Right now I'd say that these guys are half a notch behind Gyro House down the street.

  • D R.

I love this place. The wraps are terrific and much healthier than getting a burrito (think meat and vegetables instead of rice and beans). The lamb/beef wrap is awesome. My only suggestion is that the wraps are TOO big (and a little pricey). Please consider adding some smaller sizes of the wraps. Usually half a wrap is good enough for me. When my wife and I go there, we usually split a wrap, but that makes it harder to try out different flavors.

I have now eaten at the Mediterranean Grill House 3 times over the past 4 months and look forward to the next visit - for a quick, healthy and delicious lunch. It is not, however, a particularly cozy or stylish place (but it is clean) - just good basic fresh Eastern Mediterranean food - felafel, hummus, baba ganouch, tabouleh, baklava, etc.

  • Chris S.

I arrived in Mountain View last night and decided to walk around so I could find a place to eat. I stumbled upon Mediterranean Grill House and decided to give it a try. I ordered the Beef and Lamb Shawerma. The wrap was very good but started to fall apart near the end. It thought it was plenty of food and cost $10 for the wrap and a soda.

I've been here twice now and have not been disappointed. While the selections are not especially novel, they are well-prepared. I have had the kufta kebab and the lamb kebab, and the hummus, and they are all very good. I'm told the falafel is the best on Castro St., which doesn't seem like it would be that hard to do, considering the other places on Castro that have mediocre falafel (I'm looking at you, Gyro's House). The service is very friendly and expedient. If it only it were further down Castro St. towards Central I would be able to lunch here more often.

Love their lamb schwarma plate. Good hummus. Not too pricey, in my opinion. Good for takeout, too.

Decent food, terrible service. I remember the food being pretty good and the service being great when this place first opened a couple years ago. Maybe they were just too busy when we were there today but their lack of organization and general bad attitude made the food taste worse than it was. I also think they overcharged me but I didn't have the patience to deal with it after it took forever to take my order and they didn't give me a receipt. They are clearly used to screwing things up. We will probably give it another try because we remember the experience being much better than it was today. Weird dynamics between the wait staff. They were really rude to each other as well.

Went here for lunch on a weekend and I can say I've found a new favorite spot on Castro St. The beef/lamb combo shawarma plate was perfection. Moist, well-seasoned meat, fragrant rice, and a perfectly assembled Mediterranean salad. The baba ghanoush was incredible! Fresh without being bitter. Add to that friendly service with a smile and a couple of laughs and I'm sold.

While Mediterranean Grill House has only been around a few months, I've already had three very satisfying meals there. The food is fresh, tasty, and the chicken is organic, something that isn't clearly visible on their menu board. The best part of the Grill is the father/son team that run it, who are all very personable and genuinely interested in the satisfaction of their customers. However, the food comes in a close second, with the usual fare of eastern Mediterranean specialties including chicken and lamb kabobs, shawerma, falafel, etc. The sides are clearly home-made, very tasty and fresh, including some truly spectacular, smoky baba ganoush, very crisp cucumbers in the salads, and tasty lentil soup. Prices are reasonable for dinner, especially given the Castro street location, but lunch prices are a dollar or two on the high side, which reflect the high quality ingredients. Vegetarians like my sister like it because, in addition to the usual "veggie delight plate," there are a number of other tasty options - or you can make your own meal out of vegetarian sides like hummus, tabbouleh, baba ganoush, and falafel. For the first few weeks, the process was broken, with customers having to order twice - once at the grill, once again at the register. They've fixed this and food seems to flow smoothly out of the kitchen now.

Overview: standard Mediterranean food and wrap place. I tried the beef and lamb shawerma wrap for $8. It was OK... not bad... but not great either. The meat wasn't as flavorful (spiced) as I've had at other places, and it was slightly on the dry side. I didn't particularly like the sauce either (this may just be personal preference). Basically, it was OK, but Yiasoo's is better and cheaper.

  • Groucho M.

Great food overall-- lamb kabobs and falafel is amazing. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars is that the pita bread always seems so cold and unfresh. I also like thicker pita bread than MGH's, but meh everything else is killer here.

  • James B.

Was in downtown Mt. View and wanted a quick bite to eat. Wish I ate at Starbuck's next door instead. Food was poor but they were friendly. Had a chicken shwarma that tasted like a chicken buritto! They use tortilla as wraps, not authentic instead of the traditional bread. Definitely not coming back. I rather go to Dish Dash and get the best swarma around!

    (2)
  • A D.

Their shawerma and falafels are the best one can get in the bay area. Always hot and fresh. Each bite is delicious. I visit this place almost everyweek and die for it when I can't. All the people running this business are friendly and courteous.

This place is just ok. It would have received three stars if the prices weren't to over the top. Thank god I had a coupon book buy one/ get one otherwise I would not go here for falafels.

Good food, but they've raised their prices lately ($14 for one chicken skewer with rice and choice of side). We used to do take-out from here about once per week, but now we've picked a different favorite Med place for take-out due to the prices. Their food is always cooked fresh, so it takes a little longer, but tastes better because of it. We've also used them three times in the past for catering large parties (20-40 people each time). For catering they were great - plenty of food at a great quality. But the prices seem too high for what they are - a take-out place with a few cafeteria style tables if you decide to eat there.

    (3)
  • Mark L.

This place is the better of the MV Med places I have so far stopped at, having not yet hit afe Baklava or "the one just down the street from that one", but already I like them. For seven dollars you can get a nice bowl of garlic potatoes, which can come in handy since there's no Greasy Spoon All-American joint for miles on this here end of Castro St. [what they need here is a DINER, not so many Indian, Japanese, Chinese and Thai places! There is only so much & so far you can stretch that. Sometimes you want a rib sticking breakfast & not settle for a coffee & pastry...]. For about five or six bucks they sell a nice and tasty cucumber-yogurt salad which is a good mix. Between both a small bowl of the taters (only costs three) and the salad, you can aquire a tasty filling lunch for less than ten. And where else [on ritzy chintzy Castro] can you do that? And sometime in the not too far off when I could throw away a Hamilton I would come for a dinner plate & salad...

Good food (especially compared to similar option near-by). I've eaten there a handful of times and they have been consistently good. Nice people. I think a father and son own this place and when the father is there he makes an effort to make sure you are happy with the service. Everyone is friendly. Great for take-out and eating there - its clean and comfortable and I haven't had a problem finding a place to sit. There are my go to place for quick Mediterranean.

    (4)

Have eaten here several times and the food is consistently very good, the service friendly, and the portion sizes generous. The quality of the meat is excellent. Chicken kebab wrap and falafel wrap are favorites.

  • Bay T.

The place looks better on the outside than inside. The prices are okay for the Castro St location. However I did not like the chicken kebob plate. The chicken was overcooked and didn't taste like much. The service was slow but friendly.

Meh--this place is a mixed bag. While it's a solid addition to the Castro St. scene, especially in that area close to El Camino, it has its issues. Maybe as the staff finds its stride it will improve--today was opening day. The staff is friendly, and the food decent. The grilled meat is tasty, although no more than expected of a place that has "grill" in its name. The kufta isn't very interesting, but it's not bad. There's a bit too much pickled vegetables and raw onions for me in the wraps and on the plates, although maybe that reflects a regional taste. Unfortunately, the prices are steep and the menu is pretty generic Mediterranean fare--it's not the kind of place where you can go and expect to be surprised by a dish you've never tried before, if you've frequented other Mediterranean places on the peninsula. If they lowered their prices a bit and held off on the pickled vegetables and raw onions, I might be tempted to make it a regular lunch spot. It's not like the food is bad. Maybe it's just that my taste buds have been forever spoiled by Old Jerusalem Restaurant in San Francisco...

  • Milan E.

I love Mediterranean food, unfortunately this place is not one of my many choices. It's way overpriced, they charged me close to $16 for a small chicken kabob plate, and they didn't give me what I ordered either. I didn't enjoy the food and I won't come back here.

I accidently found this new gem of mt View when trying to use my restaurant.com coupons. It's cheap, clean, and most of all, full of savor. It's a semi-selfservice place so it's not for fancy 1st dates, but it's defenitely a great place to have a laid back yummy meal with your sweetheart, Love it!

Simply the best Chicken Kabab plate on Castro street. Always made fresh from organic chicken. Hummus and baba ghanoush is always served. Food is always fresh and excellent. Its a family managed shop also and they all work hard to please the customers.

I was looking for a mediterranean place on Castro and this had good reviews, so I thought I would give it a try. I tried their chicken kabab plate. I didn't like it at all. The chicken was too dry and tasteless. It's also quite pricey. The kabab at Rose Market is far far better.

  • Leanne M.

This place just wasn't too great. I had the chicken shawarma plate. There was a pretty good amount of food, but quantity doesn't always mean quality. The chicken wasn't all that tender. It was actually pretty dry and crusty (too crusty) on some parts and that's usually what happens when the stake is left turning for too long without being shaved. There weren't many people coming by to eat- and in fact, we were the only ones there during lunchtime on a Thursday afternoon. The salad was good though. It was pretty fresh. I also thought the hummus was good as well. So, my meal wasn't all that bad, but I mean the focal point wasn't great either. I might come by if I have no other options for lunch, but I don't think it's my first choice. Great outdoor seating though. I always love sitting outside in the sun for lunch. And the prices were very reasonable.

I love the place! I've read some of the negative reviews about the falafel tasting like shit, I've never thankfully tasted shit but I think the falafel tastes great. To each his own.

Met some friends here the other day for lunch. Interesting location - quite a few blocks west of the typical lunch crowd on Castro. This is exactly what the name is...a general Mediterranean grill. TONS of options - very nice pictures in case you aren't QUITE sure what the menu is describing, and priced very reasonable. It's NOT typical in that there's no reservations, and there's not a whole lot of tables. You order, get your #, then find your table...so best to get there early or late...I suspect the noon rush means long wait. I had chicken shawarma and falafels on the side. Both were INCREDIBLY well prepared. VERY tasty! I definitely give this place a thumbs up.

  • Mihir K.

Great food. I had the falafel plate and chicken kabab wrap! Both of them were tasty. The chicken was actually soft and well marinated. One of the best Mediterranean food I've ever had. Medium spicy. Not sure why it wasn't crowded. The staff is good too. Ambience is decent and clean. I specially liked the red chili sauce that they serve with the falafel. :)

Delicious, authentic Mediterranean cuisine served with a smile and at very reasonable prices. This is my go-to Mediterranean wrap restaurant when I'm in the Mtn View area. My favorite is the Lamb Shawerma Wrap. it's INCREDIBLE! The Veggie Delight plate is a great deal, and the outdoor seating is very nice too.

I was in Mountain View for some meetings and my buddy wanted to grab some lunch. We decided to drop by the Mediterranean Grill House for a quick wrap before getting back to work and upon walking in, the place was packed! That's usually a good sign that a place will be solid, but I was ultimately disappointed by my meal. I ordered the lamb and beef wrap which I was told was supposed to be more filling than the falafel I was eyeballing. I found the meat really dry, and there was no sauce to pour on in sight. I wasn't sure if was the lamb or beef or both, but it was definitely not an impressive meal. They've got a ton of tables outside on the sidewalk patio that welcome your dog on a warm day. Tables inside area very cramped though. Service was a little spotty, but the food was just not appetizing. There are a few other options on Castro so I'll look to them for a Mediterranean wrap on the next trip. Food: 5/10 Service: 5/10 Price: $ Atmosphere: 4/10

  • Monica W.

We got an order to go, and it was really disappointing. Heavy greasy chicken schewarma and the rice too. Generally, I'll make the trade off of greasy for tasty, but unfortunately, it was just greasy. With all of the yummy choices on Castro, not going back here.

  • David L.

Great food, including vegetarian options. And they make a very good halvah bar. I haven't found much places that serve halvah, so this place is a gem. And of all the places where I got prepackaged halvah, most don't compare to this halvah. The one that matches this in caliber is Joyvah halvah bars that I have to order online through Amazon (unfortunately). Now I at least have a local place to buy from instead.

I will never come back to these guys. As soon as I walked in I was ignored & glared at and let's keep in mind that there were NO OTHER CUSTOMERS while this happened. It's not like they were preoccupied with others customers which I would understand. When I was finally acknowledged.. The employee behind the counter barely spoke English and couldn't even understand the simple questions I was asking her about some of their food options. The whole experience was ridiculous and frustrating I will never go back!

Cute restaurant, service is good, but the AC is either busted or non-existent. The food is expensive and poorly seasoned. I doubt I'll come back given my list of options in the area.

Well located, halal meat: perfect for a casual lunch indoor or out! Downtown Mt. View is one of my favorite spots to eat...great people watching and almost every restaurant I've been to has pretty much been a hit, culinary-wise. What about the days I don't feel like getting dressed up and having a formal sit down dinner? MGH is perfect for that. Well located in the heart of Castro street by the Arts Theater. Great variety (picture menu over the counter for your visual convenience). High quality meats and foods (I mean it's halal what do you expect?). Good service (although the man at the counter is quite soft spoken. I had to ask him to repeat himself 3 or 4 times). To-go boxes are easily accessible so no waiting or asking - portions are pretty large so I had to mention this. Hummus? You mean HuMMMMus! Great fresh salad as well. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Order at the counter, grab your drinks at the fountain, place your number on your table for food delivery. (Tip jar as by the register). I order the chicken shewerma (I thought they were cool prior to Ironman's little craving...thanks). Chicken was super tender, sauce is amazing. I asked for the spicy sauce on the side in order to get my spicy-wrap portion just right. Highly recommend to Mediterranean grub lovers, and even first timers!

Something happened to this place. Change in ownership? Got stingy? Bad day? Their usually amazing falafel was salty, dry and flavorless. They got super stingy with the pita bread and doled out 4 triangles for a party of 3. The plates looked a bit skimpy too but it wasn't like we were looking for more food because the kufta kebab was dry and flavorless, the hummus - meh. Everything was just meh.

I keep coming back here. I had tried the falafel plate earlier, but most recently I got the falafel wrap. This is a delicious vessel of chickpea and spices. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the tortilla worked, and I even tasted more spices with everything wrapped up together. Plus I could add a huge side of hummus for $1.25 more. I've also enjoyed the chicken plate and how you get a heap of rice, cucumber salad, and your choice of hummus/more salad with it...plus pita bread. I could see myself eating here at least once a week.

I came back here for the Kibbe and also got a chicken wrap. Both were delicious this time and I am a bigger fan than I was before. Staff is really nice. However, I think next time I will just order several Kibbe. SO GOOD!

We ventured to the Mediterranean Grill House because my husband was craving a shawerma. We called in our order and picked it up in ten minutes. This was a few months ago. We've been here a few times since then and their food has always been consistent and delicious. As the name suggests their shawerma is more like a wrap and tastes pretty good. My favorite is their chicken shawerma wrap and Chicken Shish Wrap. The falafel and mediterranean salad are always awesome as well.

I am from the middle east, I didn't like their food except the falafel so I recommend this place if you are vegeterian. I will never come again!

At one point Mediterranean places were popping up everywhere here on castro. Med Grill was one of the places during the boom that survived. In what used to be a cigar shop, they provide the bridge between fast casual and sit down. Three meat plate with kufta, chicken, and beef kabob. Rice salad, and other sides plus bread. Fairly good flavor though as i said lots of other comparable places around with similar quality. Workers are decently friendly. Quickness is key for not too much money

The food here is ok. Service sucks and if they mess up your order not only do they charge you for it they end up arguing with you about it.

Some of the best and most consistent falafel balls I've had, and the rest of the food is also good. I've been coming here for lunches since 2012, they are always busy, but quick and friendly.

I can't speak to the service complaints that folks here hae had, because we had food from here delivered to our office. But I will say that the babaganoush was the best I've ever had. Period. Amazing. The hummus was right up there, too. I look forward to going there and dealing with gruff service. ;-)

Awesome food and reasonably priced. Located in a nice place right by castro street.. I have tried their wraps as well as kabob plates.. Plate come with salad and hummus.. I dint get a chance to try the Turkish Coffee, will definitely get that next time I go there..

Love this place. My favorite joint to eat period in Mountain View. Great food, juicy meet, large portions, although, kind of the pricey side. Still, the guy who owns this place puts love into everything from the Kebabs to the last Baklava. Definitely hit this place up if you're looking for a superior Mediterranean joint in the South Bay.

This is the place I CRAVE here in Mountain View for lunch time goodness. My favorite order: Chicken Shawerma Wrap with Spicy Sauce mixed in. Y to the UM! You can have your wraps in Spinach Tortilla if you wish. and I choose that almost every time. Another favorite (esp for Vegetarians) is the Falafel with Eggplant Wrap! So good! On the lighter side I will get the Feta Cheese Plate (#22) and add Chicken Shawerma. Even lighter? Get the Feta Salad and the Red Lentil Soup! That soup sounds weird but it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good! They also carry a plethora of beverage options. Fountain Drinks, Orangina in the fun glass bottle, San Pellegrino Orange soda, COCONUT WATER!!! They have at least 3 different kinds of Coconut Water! I buy those all the time for an afternoon libation! they have a bunch of fun bottled sodas too that I've never read... Tables outside so you can enjoy the Cali weather... It's good stuff. Enjoy!

This place was not bad but not great. They had really great service, but the food was not the best Mediterranean food that I have ever had. I also like the variety of drinks and desserts that they have available. We also had the falafels and they were okay as well. It is located in a cute place, though, and fun to walk around in the area afterwards.

SURPASSED my expectations. When my boyf suggested us to get some wraps, I was thinking alright it'll be good and it'll be decent but I wouldn't act like a complete lardo. WRONG. Spinach Tortilla Chicken Wrap (7.95) ! GET THAT ISH NOW. Definitely, loaded with flavor and gets drippy when you get close to the end.. Had my dog licking the clement. Yup, no lie... hahah Chickens really tender and a good curry, spice kick! Whatever sauce they put in the wrap itself, is delicious. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. The service is super nice and friendly. Service is quick too, I went to the bathroom and came back out and my order was ready. It's located in a really cute strip with food places all around so its a pleasant area to have lunch.

VERY DISAPOINTED. I love mediterranean food, and think that I have eaten enough of it to distinguesh the good from the bad, and this was bad...real bad. The service was slow, the food was OVERPRICED, the rice was dry and without flavor, the tabouli was wayyy off in flavor, and the rest of the food as just as horrible as everything else. Left sad, hungry and with a big hole in my pocket.

Wow, what a total surprise! I was scouring Restaurant.com for possible decent restaurants to use up some free credits I received from a frequent flyer program. It was tough slogging to find decently rated restaurants, but Mediterranean Grill popped up as a potential candidate. I'm so glad I decided to try it. We had the kebab combo plate and the falafel plate. Both were delicious. The chicken kebab was an unexpected delight. Huge chunks of moist, flavourful, quality halal chicken. The kefta was okay, but I feel that way because I'm not a huge fan of some spice in it. I don't know what the spice is, but Kebab & Curry's has the same flavour in their beef kebabs too. Aside from the spice I don't like, the kebab was moist and bigger than expected. Hummus, babaganoush, tabbouleh, the cucumber/yoghurt salad, tahini sauce and the pita were all wonderful. The falafel was the BEST falafel I've eaten in the South Bay. I've eaten a fair share up in Toronto where there is a large middle eastern community. The falafel here reminded me of the Falafel in Toronto. The only thing that did stand out was that the crust was a little thick. However, the falafel had a really nice flavour and was incredibly fresh. The only thing I would have liked was a bit more tahini sauce to go with my falafel. I would definitely go again.

I got a groupon for this place...didn't even know this place existed. It's by Starbucks on Castro. I think most ppl take their food to go, though they do have some tables. I think I had the falafel wrap, which was huge! i think there were 3 plump falafels in there...couldn't finish the whole thing...def a good place to go for some quick grub...would revisit whenever I crave mediterranean

I went here on Wed at 11:15am per my suggestion from my doctor, another foodie. He said the falafels are good, I asked as good at Fafafel Drive in in SJ and he said yes. I did a phone order and was told it would be done in 5 minutes. I ordered the flafel plate with falafel, choice of hummus or baba gaganouge, pickles and pita. for $8. Street parking was a bit difficult even that early but was told there is always parking in the lot in the back. The owner/cashier/phone taker was very friendly and called me by name. I told him I was there as a recommendation and he said please let me know about his falafels. They were good, freshly made, crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. Falafels are tricky, can be greasy, old, tough, etc...The cucumber salad was fresh and chunky and the hummus tasty. Have to take a star away for missing eating utensils(I ordered to go), missing pickles and they were skimpy on the pita slices, only two, had so much hummus left over, could have had 4 more slices to eat the rest of the hummus.

Food is consistently good. It's a family run business which is nice these days. They are always friendly, never too crowded, and have outdoor seating. It's become my go to place when craving some gyro meat.

I've been here twice - the first time shortly after they opened, and the second time yesterday, because I had bought a Groupon for them which was expiring. To sum it up, this place has at best average food and is more expensive than other local restaurants serving similar fare. The first time I was there with a friend because we were curious about the new place. All I remember now is that the food was pretty unremarkable. We were wondering how long they would last, given all the other good falafel/gyro places around. When I recently saw their Groupon ($7 for $15 of food) I thought a) hey, they are still in business and b) I should give them another try (especially given the discount). I brought a CouchSurfing visitor with me and we ordered a falafel plate and chicken shawarma plate to share (my friend got an Orangina as well - they have a pretty large canned/bottled drink selection). And yes, it was as expensive as I'd remembered - almost $30 regular price, including tax and tip. (You order, you pay, you sit down, then they bring you the food.) The young lady at the register was kind of surly and impatient, even though there was no one else behind us in line. The inside of the restaurant was like a McDonalds, but gloomier. The food arrived quickly, together with pita bread and two dips. The falafel was overly fried - I could barely cut it with a knife - and the chicken bits were dry. The tabouleh salad was watery... you get the idea. The two things I found to be good were the baba ghanoush side and the yogurt dip, but that wasn't enough to make a delicious and enjoyable meal. I was hesitating whether to give this place 2 or 3 stars - after all, the food was edible and didn't make us sick, and overall the restaurant was so-so, but considering the service, the atmosphere, and the prices I just couldn't justify 3 stars. Read this as "this place is not a public hazard, but I will not be coming back again". To all my friends considering going here: you are likely to have a much better food (and overall) experience at Gyros House in Mountain View (just a couple of blocks North), at Mediterranean Wraps in Palo Alto, or at House of Kabobs in Sunnyvale. Good luck!

BEST MEDITERRANEAN FOOD I've ever had! Prices aren't bad. The food is so worth it! I almost always leave full! The service is also pretty quick and friendly as well. I've had the vegetarian plates/rice dishes here as well as lavash wraps and falafel sandwiches. When the weather is hot and I don't feel like eating to my heart's content and leaving with my stomach all out for the world to see, I like to order a couple falafel balls (I think it's a dozen for $5) with some tahini sauce. Their falafel is so crispy and flavorful with the right amount of spices... delicious!

  • Ches W.

Food is good, but on the pricey side, and a little slow considering most if the food is already prepped. They do seem to be working pretty hard back there, tho. Their wraps are really good, but one big warning: Mediterranean Grill House's wraps are ALWAYS dripping with lots of liquid. By the time you get halfway through, you need to be eating over a sink or a bucket, and you'll need to wash your hands after. So these are not wraps for 'on-the-go' eating (like a wrap should be, IMHO).

REALLY bland. Coming here on a sunny Friday afternoon for lunch I was optimistic for a good lunch. Walking up you see about 7 tables in front of the building, most with an umbrella and later was comfy (for outdoor seating) for a casual lunch. Inside there is a roped off area to weigh through to wait, electronic screens with the menu items and pictures. Interesting format for waiting to order, the pictures do help. The inside of the restaurant is really bland, long tables that many parties can sit at remind me of the dining hall back in college. Not a bad atmosphere - really just not an atmosphere to speak of. The service was fairly friendly, not exciting but ok. The food was quick though, surprisingly quick. We ordered lamb and beef combination plate with the cucumber salad and hummus. The hummus was creamy and a bit bland. The cucumber salad was just that, no onion, no tomato just really bland sauce over fresh cucumber. The beef and lamb was a tad dry and completely without flavor, that was accompanied bland rice. While more than a fair amount of food it was 9.99 - kind of pricey for bland food for lunch. *The restroom is located in the other building, you have to ask for a key pass card and kind of find your own way with a bit of instruction. Oh well, clean though.

Just tried Mediterranean Grill House for the first time, and I have to say I am a FAN! I had the veggie plate, and it was YUMMY. The Falafel and Dolmas were my favorite things by far. Everything was very well done and had excellent flavor. My husband had the Chicken Shewarma Wrap which he said was really good. The only gripe I had was that the portions were a little on the small side. Definitely not a place you would go on a hot date, but a great place if you're hungry for some really good Mediterranean Food. I will definitely be back here to try some of their other menu items. :o)

Love this place! everytime the food is delicious and FRESh. I usually order the falafel plate and a cucumber salad. They make the falafel balls as soon as i order them so i know im getting fresh food. The salad is premade i beileve but nonetheless its still very yummy and fresh :) Also costumer service is superb .. everyone is extremely friendly and although im not very familiar with Mediterranean food they were kind enough to explain what everything is :)))

Hubby was supposed to pick a lunch spot on Friday for us. Being the super planner I am, and the completely spontanteous person he is, he didn't pick anything. :( So we drove down Castro street for him to see something scream out at him. Mediterranean Grill House was the first spot he saw, so that's where we ended up eating. You go to the counter, order your food, and they bring it out for you. I got the ground lamb/beef skewers, with rice, hummus, and greek salad. Hubby got the Swarma Wrap. My meat was dry, and had little flavor. Same with the rice. There's better spots than this one for the same price. +1 star for being dog friendly.

  • Nora K.

The ONLY reason I give this 4 stars is because the ambience is blah. The service is wonderful (family run), friendly and the owners are sweet and generous. The food is fantastic. I've not had anything from the menu that I have not liked. These guys make the best falafel next to Falafel Drive In in San Jose. Love the tabouleh and the cucumber salads! The lamb and chicken skewers are done perfectly. This is not to be missed! YUM!

A word of warning: #19 is not Koshari! I should have known I wasn't going to get what I expected when the girl at the counter said "The what?" when I asked for Koshari. Oh well, it's not what I wanted, but it tasted okay. The meal was more like a large portion of yellow rice with a little lentils and macaroni in it.

Went for dinner for the first time and not impress at all. They advertise their beef comes from Harris Ranch that are corn fed. That's information not to brag about since cows are meant to eat grass, NOT CORN! Every cheap beef on the market are corn fed. I ordered the falafel and eggplant wrap for about $9. They charge extra for the eggplant but only a few bits had eggplant. A friend ordered the same thing and complained that he didn't have eggplant, until he got to the bottom half of his wrap. My wrap was dry but other people in my group was dripping wet from sauces. Inconsistent wrap making and they use tortilla wraps, not authentic. Definitely not coming back. I rather go to Dish Dash since they give me salads or fries on the side for the same price and better quality wrap.

I've eaten here several times and buy their chicken sherma wraps and heat them up for lunch often. For a quick meal at a reasonable price with a decent counter order environment the food is a good deal. I find the kufta plate and the chicken sherma to be the best meals. The chicken kabob I found average at best. A good value for a quick meal.

Enjoyed my lunch there today. Got #16 & #33. My sister & I split both items. Very good hummus & tzaki. All else was very tasty/good seasonings. What irritated me was the counter guy kept going to the back office when I wanted to ask him a question. Very laid back.

Whoa, what a food ! We ordered chicken and lamb kabob plate. It was one of the best we ate. The chicken kabob was baked perfectly and all the spices was perfectly marinated. And on top, chicken wasn't dry but it was soft and watery. Rice was full of fragrance as if it was an edible flower. Mutton was cooked with deft. Going there again !

I went to this place to pick up lunches for my co-workers. The portion is big. I guess I am not a huge mediterranean food fan unless it's delicious. I personally found this place 3.5 star, if there is such an option.

My favorite Mediterranean food joint in Silicon Valley!! Their three meat combo plate comes in at a pricey 15.99, but it packs in the protein, and the kebabs are cooked to perfection! I've also had the gyro plate which is also delicious at a more reasonable price. My friend has gotten the falafel wrap and I almost ate it a long with my plate it was so delicious. All the meat is halal, the place is always kept nice and clean, there is PLENTY of outdoor seating, and the two brothers who own the place are extremely nice and the customer service is top notch. I've never had a bad experience here, and will always give them my business when I am in Mountain View!!!

I came here on a Saturday for dinner with two families, and it wasn't crowded at all so we pushed two tables together outside and enjoyed the weather. The menu is expansive with different types of meat and plates and wraps. I got the veggie plate, which had hummus, baba ghanoush, two falafel, potatoes, your choice of salad, and dolma. I've been to many mediterranean places and ordered similar platters, so I can say that nothing was bad, and the hummus was very good. I prefer the falafel at Vivi's and Falafel Drive better, but it was plenty of food for not a bad price. However, the pita that comes with it was probably the worst I've seen. Still, I left full and satisfied. The service is why I give it three and not four stars. The waiters were a little slow, not friendly, and the dishes came a couple minutes apart from each other. My dad, who regularly eats at similar places, said he didn't feel too good when he got home, so he agrees with a rating of three stars.

Stopped after work to grab something quick to take home for dinner. Service was a tad slow but my chicken shawarma wrap was delicious - flavorful with lots of tender (not dry) chicken. Also ordered some falafels that were on the drier side but I'm just being picky. Love the convenience. Will be back to try more!

Went to dinner here with the fiancé last night, only one word can describe my experience, mediocre. Fiancé's a vegetarian, figure they should have decent options. As soon as we order and sit down the manager approaches the table and informs me that they're all out of the dish she ordered, I say no problem and she orders something else. The food got there in decent time, but my lamb kabob wrap was much too messy to enjoy. After about half-way through my wrap, I had enough of the watery substance spilling out, told my fiancé we should go, (she had been picking at her food since arrival) and quickly departed from this establishment that couldn't help but leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. Two stars because the actual lamb inside the wrap was tender and cooked pretty well.

Awesome place on Castro. Great tasting falafel and gigantic bad ass chicken Shawarma. Fair prices and you gotta gotta try their potatoes. YUMMY!!!! Also, staff is very friendly. I can't say enough about the staff. They are extremely friendly and make you feel right at home. I can't wait to go back to this place when it is a little warmer so I can enjoy the lovely outside seating.

You can tell by my review numbers that I'm not a ravenous reviewer. But one thing for sure is that when I'm ravenous for good Middle-Eastern food, my go-to place is Mediterranean Grill House. Sure it's mainly a take-out place, but the place is always clean, with courteous staff, and above all, great food. My favorite's are the chicken shawarma plate and the dulma plate. The dulmas or dolmas are the best I've ever tasted! Their chicken, hummus and tabouleh are, IMO, the best you can get in the area (I always get extra hummus!). Good food, good value.

  • Jennifer T.

Terrible just terrible the hummus was clearly out of a can because there is no way those were garbanzo beans with fresh garlic tahini and lemon juice. Their wraps were disgusting my sister and I ordered chicken and beef. Both of us took one bite threw up and asked for a check I honestly do not know how they are in business let alone make rent in mountain view. You want fresh Mediterranean food go to Dish N Dash sunnyvale wow spectacular food.

Came here after a long day of studying at STarbucks next door, and wanted a quick bite before we headed home. I got the #4, the beef and lamb wrap, and that was sooo not good. I immediately regretted my decision for that after the first bite. My boyfriend got the veggie delight plate which consisted of hummus, some salad, babbagannoush, pita bread, tzaziki sauce, falafels, and some dolmas. The veggie plate was decent, with the best thing about it being the falafels. Other than that, the food was mediocre. The nice thing about this place is that there's outdoor seating with a view of downtown Mountain View. If I come back, I'll probably try some of their plates or just a falafel plate or something. All I know is that I'm keeping away from that beef and lamb shawerma wrap!

Its just A-OK! We had the sheesh kabab and their special fish. Nothing great to mention. Just average food and average service. If your looking for THE-BEST mediterranean food joint in town, this is definitely not the place to go.Well, thats my opinion!

My wife and I visited the restaurant on a Friday night . It was 10:25 PM when we reached, almost closing time. The waiter checked with the chef ,and said he could accommodate us. The food was great from the start - warm pita bread with a yummy tomato ( and garlic ? ) dip . The veggie kebab platter was excellent , so was the chicken kebab. Had a street side seat . With the big glass windows it gave a good view of the streets. Our server was warm and cordial the whole time in-spite of it being near closing time. Great service, great food , what more can I ask for . Will come back for more.

My friends and I walked around in downtown Mountain View trying to figure out where to eat and finally decided on this place after reading the Yelp reviews. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by this old gentleman who might have been the owner. As soon as we made eye contact he came out from behind the register and started moving some orders around as if we didn't exist. So we wait till he decides to acknowledge us while looking around an almost empty restaurant. When we ask him if there are any lunch specials he looked at us as if we were speaking in a foreign language. After not getting a straight answer from him we proceed to order based on how things looked like on their menu board with pictures. We ordered the shawarma beef and chicken plate as.well as the skewer with 2 pieces of kebab and all the dishes were disappointing. This restaurant gives no customer service and over charge for the quality and quantity of food that they provide. Buyer beware!!

We've been coming back there for about 4 years now. We order catering from the Grill House every time we have a party and we don't feel like cooking, and all our guests love it and look forward to the next party. Last time some of the guests got sick and could not make it to the party, we informed the place a day in advance and got our money back for two orders. I am vegetarian, and grill house has great vegetarian food also! We love mediterranean food, and this is the best place to get it around the area! Thank you for great food!

Halal Sign on window and Owners are Known Muslims. Went here for lunch with a friend. I had the beef/lamb platter ($9.99). I had to get some hot sauce on the side. It came with rice, hummus and choice of salad. Everything was pretty good. I also ordered a mint tea, but was slightly disappointed that it was just a prepackaged tea bag in hot water. Service was good. This place get's packed during lunch time. Parking is usually difficult in this area (Castro Street). Will have to come back again to try some of the other menu items.

The ambience was interesting because it offered lots of character of a different culture. The food was good.. I had the chicken skewers and it was very well marinated and prepared nice and tender. There was a side of grilled mixed vegetables and rice which was a bit dryer than what I am accustomed to from mediterranean cuisine. Next time I visit, I want to try their Dolmas Service was prompt and polite. Thank you, Mediterranean Grill!

Darn good falafel! Visiting a friend & decided a nice walk along Castro St was in order since the weather was so nice - Mediterranean Grill House was nearby so decided to pop in Ordered the Falafel Wrap - had to wait a bit but that was b/c it was made fresh, right as I ordered & for fresh falafel, waiting is nooooo problem The wrap was absolutely crammed full of falafels - they were crispy on the outside & tender on the inside; little bit of lettuce (could have used more) and pickled veggies made this a super-tasty sandwich If there had been more tahini or some kind of sauce to compliment, we'd have been in heaven! In any case, I'd totally get this again & again & in fact, I want 1 now Also got a side of Garlic Potatoes & a side of Hummus for later as I can't pass up a homemade hummus.....or potatoes Potatoes were tender & spicy-flavorful - not spicy hot. Lots of garlic in a good way! Hummus was really creamy & extremely flavorful & they provided tons of pita wedges to mop it all up! We have a winner in Med Grill House!!!

The food is consistent, the takeout is always packaged well so that it doesn't make a mess, and I feel like it's the one place I've been in Mountain View since I moved here where they don't judge me for my inability to dress myself or put on makeup. It's always the same girl behind the register, and she's always smiling :-) I live about half a block away, and the fact that they participate in OrderAhead makes my life so much easier. Sometime I pick up lunch from here for meetings, and they have a wide enough selection that I can get something for all my picky/diet restricted people. Get the chicken kebab plate thing with the rice and salad!

OMG tonight was the night that my sisters, my girlfriend, and my cousin tried this place! It was wonderful! 5 stars period. The service was very helpful and friendly while the place was fused with tremendous aroma. We had ordered a dozen of the falafels with tahini sauce! Holy shit that is my new french fries and nick nacks! I might be done with Mexican and now in with the Mediterranean dishes! hands down, this place rocks my socks!

Went back for lunch once again, and I found myself truly loving the balls here. The green fried balls that is. BEST FALAFEL....still! Crunchy, perfect, and delicious. Service is good, and I enjoy the variety of options on the menu. A must if you are in Mountain View!

Food: eating the chicken shawarma wrap was an unfortunate experience. The chicken was over-cooked and very salty; it looked and tasted like poorly made mystery meat. Instead of fresh house sauce, I got some oily soup dripping out. Also, I asked for it "spicy" and instead I got pickles... Atmosphere: flies roamed freely inside and the lighting was poor. I'm not expecting sleek, modern decor, but some cleanliness would be nice Service: the staff were polite. Avoid this place. For $9 one can get better food at Asian Box or Le Boulanger. I may be spoiled after having shawarma in Amsterdam and Berlin, but I still feel the food was exceptionally poor.

Stopped in here to grab a quick bite of lunch and was really quite disappointed. I ordered a schwarma plate and was then handed a schwarma wrap (I couldn't be bothered to change it, so I just ate it...). It was really dry and chewy. Lacking in flavor too. I'm from Israel, so I know what a schwarma should taste like... and this was not it! Having said that, for $8, I got what I paid for.... so if this sounds overly harsh, take it with a grain of....um hummus. Like my rating says.... "meh... I've experienced better"

Upping this to 5 stars after several repeat visits - shawarma wrap was excellent with perfectly tender & juicy chicken and the falafel I had today (with a spinach wrap and falafel balls right out of the fryer) was so unbelievably good that I ate the whole, huge thing before I could stop myself, even though I intended to save half for tomorrow's lunch. I think this is the best falafel I've ever had, although to be fair, I am a recent falafel convert (or I should say, I only recently discovered how delicious it is!) and I have tried very few falafel places in the bay area (Best ___: Best Falafel)

Stopped here for lunch during the Art & Wine Festival last week. It seemed decent enough when looking at the menu and the photos of the dishes they have posted on their board. I had read that they made a good falafel so I opted for that. My boyfriend got the chicken kabob platter. First of all, it took a really long time to get our food. The place was practically empty and for counter service, it seemed to take forever. We sat down and patiently waited, thinking well it smells good and so our lunch was probably going to be worth the wait. Finally got our lunch and my falafel was so soggy that it soaked right through the wrapping and was falling apart. I think they probably had the food ready earlier and didn't bring it out right away. I kind of had to pick at it to get the falafel patties which were decent. However the rest of it-the tomatoes and tomatoes were all mushy and gross. What a disappointment. My boyfriend's chicken platter had hardly any chicken on it and his "salad" that it came with was just some soggy tomatoes and cucumbers. Kind of then just felt sick the rest of the day... 2 stars cause I think if my falafel wasn't soaking wet, it might have been alright.

3.5 stars. I came here for lunch w/ a friend on a weekday. I ordered the falafel plate, which came w/ 8 falafel balls, hummus, and pita bread. The portions were huge, especially for lunch. The falafels were decent in taste, but a little dry in my opinion. For my falafel fix, Falafel's Drive-In is still my go-to place. -L.

A nice mid-eastern lunch place, as its close to work. Veggie Kabobs and Falafels are quite interesting. The falafel was very nice during my first outing while I wanted to try something else during the next visit and tried the kabob plate which was .....hmmm, OK. However my colleagues enjoyed their Non-Veg dishes which sums up the overall experience.. Outdoor seating on a sunny day is perfect for lunching.

I decided to try Mediterranean Grill House because it always sound good to me & I wanted to try some place new. Located next to UPS store & Starbuck's on Castro St, Mtn View. I walked in and noticed the smell of grilled meats on a warm day in Mtn View. There's a light A/C inside, but not cool inside because of the cooking of the meats. For my first time there I got: Feta cheese salad $5.99 - lots of iceberg lettuce, a few slices of tomatoes, some cucumbers, red onions, & light feta cheese w/ a heavy hand on balsamic vinegar. Just ok. Baba Ghanouj small $2.99. They have a large for $5.99. I got the small which is a really small plate of mushed eggplant. Not enough smoky flavor for me w/ some pickles on the side. A few pita cut up to eat it with. Just ok. Food came quick because the place wasn't busy at 5pm. Lots of orders for waiters.com waiting to be delivered. I might go back to try the meat dishes. They are on restaurant.com . Credit cards taken.

What a great find for some delicious Mediterranean food! Their plates are a great deal and you get a ton of food! Along with your main entree, you get pita, rice, and salad/hummus. I split a beef and lamb scherwarma plate with my sister for lunch one day and we both had plenty to eat. Both meats were tender and very flavorful. The garlic dipping sauce is so good that "dipping" isn't exactly the most appropriate way to describe how I used it... immersing, dunking, or slathering is more like it. I don't even really like cucumbers, but the cucumber yogurt salad is also really good. Service is fast, prices are reasonable, and the food is great!

Can't believe I was not aware of this place. I'm in love with the baba ganouj clearly made from roasted eggplant and without mayo. The combo place I ordered had perfectly grilled chicken breast (kebab pieces) and lamb.

  • Rohan D.

Grill house is fantastic. For about $11 you get a nice plate of meat + rice + side + salad. The chicken isn't as good as the lamb and beef and the place would get 5 stars if the meat was succulent and delicious but it tastes like very slightly spiced meat, so not worthy of a 5 star rating. Instead of getting hummus as a side though, I recommend getting the potatoes which are far better. The food is served pretty quick and it's a great place for a quick grab of lunch when you're in a hurry.

This place is the worst place so far I been in bay area. Even 1 star is pretty good for them. Not only the foods but also their cleaning is disgusting. I would auggest ephesus for the best mediterranean foods.

Love, love, love Mediterranean Grill House as a cheap option for good, Mediterranean food! The restaurant itself is small, and tries to utilize as much seating area as possible. Tables are packed closely together in order to fit as many people into as small a space as possible. That said, outdoor seating is also available, which helps to avoid too much crowding! Red chairs with black cushions are seated at red wooden tables with a black outline. Nice color coordination! Service is quite friendly. They take your order at the counter, and are happy to offer recommendations. The hummus is one of the best I've ever had anywhere. Very, very tasty, with a nice lemony flavor to it. The presentation of it is fantastic as well; they include pickles (both green and pink) along the outside of the plate, which really frames the dish well, and makes it kind of pretty to look at. I've also done their Kebab combo, which comes with one chicken kebab and one kufta kebab. The meat was very tender and juicy. Mediterranean Grill is an extraordinary option, especially for the price. The food is very good, and with almost everything on the menu being under $10, it certainly won't leave your wallet thin!

After a 3 hour hike went to this place since it had a halal menu. We ordered the lamb and beef shawarma plate, a lamb shawarma wrap, and a house special plate. The meat was tender and well cooked. The serving size was decent for the price however the wrap was really bland even though we asked for it to be spicy (they had asked). One of our sides was tabouleh salad which was pretty ordinary.. We also ordered a side of garlic potatoes which were different than what we expected and didnt seem like they were cooked fresh. Overall it was ok, wouldnt really go back unless there is no other option

I came in believing it was just going to be decent food, but it was better!! It was not only great service, but REALLY TIDY all around! They had 4-5 chefs or cooks and a great manager who chit chatted with us about cultural food from around the world. I used to go to the Gyro House, the other mom/pop Mediterranean deli, but this one is much cleaner and spacious I noticed. Seems like a good place for a quick lunch or dinner while traffic time. My friend and I were the only ones eating at 5 p.m. early traffic time and we had a heated conversation by ourselves. I looked like I wanted to leave and started covering my wrap with the left over aluminum foil and the chef just voila busted it out for me! I didn't even have to get out of my seat! Thanks great service or maybe just too loud :D

Middle of the line, for better or worse. Also, the wrap comes in a tortilla. Like a burrito. Ummm...

I love their falafel wrap and plate, but this review is for the chicken shawerma wrap. Sorely disappointed! I had expected nice juicy chicken, but it was dry and stringy/powdery. I hate wasting food but this I didn't mind tossing out.. Rose int'l market down the road has much better succulent chicken. Anyway, will be sticking to the falafel/veggie plate when I come here.

Been here few times. Had their chicken shawarma plate, comes with rice, chicen, Hummus, salad and pita bread. its a very nice dish, nice flavors, and reaosnable price. It also comes with yogurt sauce which is amazing. They have plenty of seating inside and out of the resraraunt. Will be back soon.

I'd actually give this establishment 4.5 stars, the facility is nothing special, but it always appears clean. Been coming in since they opened, family owned and operated, food is always excellent. High quality Halal meats. Falafel is the best I've found anywhere around here. I like the 3 meat combo, and the Mediterranean Salad. Owners are friendly and accommodating and really make me feel welcomed.

I LOVE THEIR FALAFELS! Oh my goodness !! Very moist and very creamy. The falafel and eggplant seaweed wrap is very fulfilling. I had previous bad experiences with falafels being dry and disgusting. But this place changed my mind and placed a smile on my face! It was like a burrito but only veggie. Although I might say, the girl at the cash registered took a bit to process our money. BTW it's not too cheap nor too expensive for lunch. I think my falafel wrap was 7 bucks. And my friends chicken kabob was 13. :D I'm a happy camper. Twas my Birthday Lunch!

In a neighborhood crowded with Middle-Eastern restaurants (actually many kinds of restaurants, but Middle-Eastern grill-kebab joints make up an important subgroup what with B'Zu, Cafe Baklava, Gyros House, Ephesus, Morocco's, Neto, etc.) MGH stands out. Not for ambience, which is modest -- semi-self-service, order at counter, they bring your food to your indoor or outside plaza table -- but for flavors. A veteran restaurateur patriarch (himself Middle-Eastern in origins) converted the property to a family-run restaurant April 2008. My comments here are from a dozen meals there, and again recently. Kebabs and wraps. Shaved grilled spiced meats (unusual range). Combination plates with choice of various rather fresh salads and sides. All running within a few dollars of $10, lunch or dinner. MGH offers shawerma, a more refined (and to my palate, subtler-spiced) variant of the "Gyros" sliced roast spiced meats carved from a spit, familiar internationally (and on Castro St.) at Greek and Turkish restaurants. Even the kebabs are differently seasoned than typical versions in this region, which keeps me and many friends coming back to MGH. Any palate jaded by routine Mediterranean grill specialties can find refreshment and novelty at MGH. Thinking about it is making me hungry -- again.

This is for the awesome falafels and babaganouj. Also love the potatoes that came on the side. Great food, great price. Well covered outside seating. I hope it tastes this awesome every time!

While not the best of ambience, the food here really rules and the service is fairly quick(though the queus can get long). Good for grabbing a quick bite or a takeout during lunch. Try their chicken or lamb shish kebab platter or the wraps - really well marinated and cooked to perfect tenderness.

This time, I had the #12 Kufta Kebob Plate. It's a skewer of ground beef and lamb, with rice, cucumber tomato salad, hummus, and pita. The kebab had a lot of flavors and even a little spice to it. This was a better choice than the Beef & Lamb Shawerma I had last time. Portions are perfect. Food comes out quickly. Staff is friendly. Great place for lunch!

Stopped in here for lunch today. Was craving some Shawerma. Got the chicken Shawerma wrap and some falafel balls (6). Was way more food than needed and everything was fantastic and inexpensive! The guy that took our order was hella polite and friendly too, and even offered me a glass of water when I didn't have anything to drink with my order. I honestly was just excited about Shawerma and didn't even think about a drink, but I didn't even have to ask, he just offered. It's those little things that make me love a place and this place is a place to love! Also, he asks you if you like it spicy or not. I had never had my shawerma spicy before, it was amazing. All in all, I will be back for sure. Whenever we're craving Mediterranean food for lunch, this will be our spot!

the veggie falafel sandwich (w/ and w/out eggplant) is delish, i agree with the reviewer that said its better than Falafel Drive In but maybe not as moist. Nothing some tahini sauce cant fix though. Good food, nice outdoor seating, and pretty cheap. Only gripe: can you guys use pita bread instead of tortillas for the wraps? please! Also, when they ask if you want it spicy, be warned, it is superrrrrr spicy!

had a late lunch here today after a foot massage. we sampled the babaganosh, hummus, and chicken wrap. the babaganosh was particularly good, not oily at all, nice smokey flavor. the chicken wrap was also delicious, the chicken was moist and flavorful and the wrap had a nice combination of sauce, pickle, and chicken. my friend had the feta cheese salad which looked great and she said was very good. we will both go back.

I can't believe I've not reviewed this place. I used to come here often when I stayed in Mountain View and now I come back for the falafels! I used to always eat the Kufta Kebob and my husband's go-to is the lamb shish kebob but, in an effort to eat more healthily, I tried the veggie delight plate. Dulmas are not my cup of tea but I loved the falafels. They remind me of indian dhal vade. Anyway, their falafels are super fragrant and fried till crispy on the outside but not dry inside. I crave the falafel plate which I usually have with hummus and tabouleh. Great combo :-) I much prefer Med Grill House to Falafel's Drive In near Santana Row cos it's more fragrant even if FDI's is more moist. Hmm... I feel happy just thinking about their falafels :-) PS: I never really liked falafel till I ate them here. It made me a Falafel convert :-) Thanks!

If you want pretty good fast basic mediterranean food this is the place to be. I've been to mountain view a lot and I never knew this place existed until I was taken here. The place isn't fancy but I was surprised at how many people where there. I probably wouldn't eat here but to-go is great. They make things pretty darn fast and wrap it up nicely to-go. I ordered the chicken wrap. I was super surprised when they asked if I wanted wheat or spinach wrap. I don't think I've ever been given a choice when I go get mediterranean food. It was a huge perk for me, I'm a dork I know. :P Food was good and tasty, people were nice, fast service. I'd come here for lunch or if you want a suuuper casual dinner place. I came in sweat pants and a sweatshirt and felt right at home.

Came here on a Thursday night, the service was quick and friendly. As for the food, I ordered a Beef and Lamb Schwerma wrap, under $10, and it came with good portions (like the size of a large burrito). The meat was juicy, though a little salty. I couldn't really taste the vegetables our sauce. We also got bread and 3 typees of dip, not sure if this was complimentary or not, that was pretty good. Overall, I'd definitely come back again to grab a quick bite.

First off, the food, I would give 4 stars. The reason they lose 2 stars is the service. I get take out a lot with my coworkers. This place managed to get my order wrong...twice. I can understand the first time, three plates, with specific instructions. But the second time, even after double checking over the phone and order slip, I open it to find it blatantly different then the receipt. If I do go a third time, and I doubt I will, I'll be opening the actual boxes before leaving the store.

HORRIBLE! Had the Kufta Kebab Wrap and it was the DRIEST thing I've ever had. The bread was like cardboard, only 2 slices of tomato which was pink and hardly ripe, with some iceberg lettuce and barely any sauce. The Kufta Kebab was barely warm and also completely dry and tasteless. This is the second time I've tried this place with the same result even with a different choice of sandwich. Can be sure I won't try it a third time! Can't believe anyone would give this more than 1 star!!

My lunch time obsession. Ob-ses-sion. Their lentil soup is stupid cheap and crazy good. AND! They sell that coconut water in the glass jar with the green label that is impossible to find. It's a perfect, totally filling, high protein, hydrating, low carb* (IF you can resist the giant stack of pita bread they give you WITH your soup), lunch combo for 5 bucks. This family owned joint has got customer service down! They are SO friendly. So fast. So accommodating and helpful. I just love being there. My biggest problem with Mediterranean Grill House is that since I HAVE dabbled in their falafals I now know how AMAZING they are. SO the sometimes overpowering temptation to just go-big with the falafal wrap, kicks my wannabe healthy butt. Can't go wrong with this place.

For homemade, quick, and health mediterranean food- this is it! Huge falafel wraps, tender grilled kabobs, all washed down with high quality beverages- Santa Cruz Org, Pellegrinos, Reeds..you name it. What I like most about this place is that their food is non greasy. The falafels are crispy and flavorful, same goes for their grilled meats. Clean, fast, and efficient- this place sits high in my book of local eats'.

The best falafel I've ever had and a fantastic chicken shawarma. Not hugely in love with the pickled beets that come with it, but seriously, that's my only complaint. Always a nice, calm environment and super easy. Never seen a long wait the times we've been here. Great prices for everything as well!

We love the Mediterranean Grill House! My favorites are the chicken kabob wrap and the chicken kabob plate with the baba ghanoush and the tabouli. I also love the vegetarian plate and the falafel.

  • Laurel P.

Yum! This place was delicious! The falafel balls were so good-not too greasy and with just enough crunch. It came out warm too. I had the shawerma beef and lamb wrap and it was good but in my opinion, had a little too much meat. The meat was tasty and flavorful but on the drier side. Overall, this place was a great place for lunch in mountain view if you happen to be nearby. Service was quick and friendly. Food is fresh and on a warm sunny day, outdoor seating is best. It does pack up quickly during the busy lunch time tho.

  • Cindy L.

I ordered the beef & lamb shawerma in a spinach wrap. The meat was completely dry and tasteless. The meat was so horrible that I couldn't even distinguish between the beef and the lamb. Since I paid over $8 for this wrap, I forced myself to eat as much of it as I could, which was about half of it. I am still hungry. I have a stomachache. I should have just gotten a burrito. Never again.

  • Diana L.

I was impressed with their beef and lamb combo with rice/pita and cucumber salad ($10). The price does seem a bit high, but our plate was quite flavorful and memorable. I would eat there again. I recommend a rice plate or a wrap - pita is delicious!

This is right downstairs from my new office, so I thought I'd try it out. Service for take out was fairly quick, and the place was clean. I ordered the chicken shawerma and a side of 2 falafel. The portions were generous, so this easily made two meals. The falafel was flavorful, crisp on the outside, tender and moist on the inside. If I come back, that is likely what I'll order. Now for the negatives. The chicken shawerma was bland and extremely dry. The only seasoning that I could taste on the chicken was mild yellow curry. The hummus that was served on the side was runny and thin, although the flavor was very good. I will likely try this place again, since it's so convenient and close, but I won't ever order the shawerma again.

Leaving work last night, I was famished. Let's consider the options: 1) taqueria 2) in n' out 3) juicy mediterranean shwarma wrap with beef and lamb "Bob (Barker), I choose door #3." Oh man, that was a good choice. The wraps have 2 options: spinach and wheat. I chose wheat, and chose lamb/beef over chicken. You can't turn down meat turning on a vertical stick. Yes, that's what she said. About 5 minutes later, the brown bag appeared in front of me, with a burrito-shaped object inside. I took a bite before driving away. Oh man. Meaty and juicy pleasure. The veggies complemented the meat, and kept me wanting more. The wrap felt somewhat healthy, so I felt better and less of a glutton. My only problem with Mediterranean restaurants is that when I see a vertical rotisserie, I want to buy one. I would put every kind of meat imaginable on it.

This isn't the fanciest place on Castro, it's easily my favorite though. You will not leave this place hungry. Whenever I order one of the plates, I always think it's way too much food, but I somehow end up cleaning my plate. My favorite has to be the Kufta kebob - this sounds strange but the rice is addictive. Also love, love, love the cucumber yoghurt salad and humus. If you're not super hungry any one of the wraps is a good choice. Tip: If you're going to go with a group, let the cashier know and they will arrange to have everything ready at about the same time, otherwise someone will end up waiting.

  • Kes D.

Aww yeah, falafel burritos. I love me some falafel wrap. I like the food here in general, but their falafel seems to be the best-- it tastes fresh and moist on the inside. The wraps are nice and big and can easily last me two meals (if I can have self control!). The lamb is good too, and I really enjoy the tabouleh (I recommend that as a side over some of the other mushy things, but that's personal preference). It's pretty much great comfort food. Next time I go, I want to try their cucumber yogurt sauce. I have to agree with Kristine D. that the food looks better in person than on the menu, but it's useful to have the pictures there so you know what you're going to get. I also really enjoy the mysterious magenta pickled vegetable. What is it, anyway? Maybe kohlrabi?? A great, reasonable place to eat given some of the over priced, lower quality places on Castro St.

    (4)
  • Anja P.

I've been searching for the perfect tabouleh since my college days when I dated a Lebanese guy whose mother made the most wickedly delicious tabouleh. I had almost given up hope when I found this place. Y-U-M. There have been a couple of times when it wasn't quite perfect but for the most part it's excellent. Also, LURVE their falafel...super crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. Recommend the lentil soup as well. The one complaint I have is that it's not very well ventilated and the heavy meat smell is kinda off-putting to my tender vegetarian sensibilities. So, unless it's warm outside and I can eat at one of the outside tables I just get my food to go.

I think I may have found a new favorite Mediterranean lunch spot, and its name is Mediterranean Grill House. (It's not just a "grill"; It's not just a "house"; It's both!) The location is good, the interior is attractive and spotless, the service is friendly, the crowds are light, but most of all the food is top notch. And to boot they use halal meat, including organic chicken. I have yet to have a disappointing meal here. Mediterranean Grill House offers a decent variety on their menu, including the usual falafel, schwarma, and kabobs. As for their Mediterranean plates, they can be customized. For instance, you can choose one of three types of salad (mediterranean, tabouleh, or cucumber-yogurt) plus one of two sides (hummus or baba ghanouj). I'm a sucker for Med salad and hummus, so I chose those every time. -- Falafel plate: $8.60 after tax. Not a bad price for a little bit of heaven. 6 fresh, large falafel balls, hummus, salad and two small wedges of store-bought pita. The falafel balls were excellent, with a very crunchy shell on the outside and a flavorful and moist interior. The hummus was very good and the salad was fresh and tasty (cucumber, tomatoes & peppers). A very satisfying meal. My only nit was the two small wedges of pita seemed a bit stingy, especially when most other spots give you a basket of the stuff. -- Mixed lamb/beef schwarma plate: Delicious tender and flavorful meat that even had a nice crispiness to it. Served on a nice bed of rice, with salad, hummus and the same two small pieces of pita. My meal was top notch and very satisfying, though I ran out of pita too soon and was wishing I had more. -- Kufta kabob plate: one large, excellent lamb/beef mixed kabob on a bed of rice, plus my usual sides of mediterranean salad and hummus. I also added a side order of two falafel balls. The kabob was moist and delicious, the rice was excellent, and the falafel balls were just as good as before. Another home run meal. Mediterranean Grill House belongs near the top of my list, but I hesitate to give it a full 5 stars just yet. Maybe it's the puzzling pita stinginess, or maybe it's because I've been spoiled by some of the really luxurious, thick pita at other spots (e.g. Golden Falafel Ball or Falafel, etc). Nevertheless, Mediterranean Grill House will be on my regular visit list for a while to come.

Agreed with Veda T. Chicken here is very good - moist, juicy, a departure for most Mediterranean places (that I've been to at least). The kufta kabob was none of the above, and the shawerma was just OK. I found the hummus way too salty. Med Grill House does participate in Restaurant.com , which made this meal decent and affordable. I'm not sure I'd come here otherwise; I'd probably go to nearby Rose for cheap yummy koubideh. I DID appreciate that they apologized for their slow service here. That goes a long way. I also like that they give you a choice of whole wheat or spinach in choosing the tortilla for your wrap. Thumbs up for being healthy. Pictures posted.

Honestly I didn't even get to try the food here. 6 of us went and they wouldn't even seat us. Even when we said we are okay with six chairs around a small table. They shooed us off and claimed there was a 30 minute wait when the place was almost empty. I don't know, maybe we smelled funny that day? Go down the street to Bodrum (see my other review). Now that is FINE Mediterranean dining.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the converted Cigar Store when I went in last night with a couple of girlfriends - but was very pleasantly surprised. First of all, the owner/waitstaff were super friendly - that puts a restaurant at 5 stars for me right off the bat. I ordered a rice/lentil plate that came with pita, salad and hummus. I added a couple of falafels to the mix as well. PLENTY of food for $8.99 - especially since the owner brought over more pita bread and a falafel on the house. I loved that the salads (both the mixed veggie and the tabouleh) were very fresh, the hummus had this lemony tang & rich olive oil complement, and that the spicy sauce on the side was actually spicy. The falafels felt a little overfried, but were still tender inside. My only very minor issue was that the raw red onions in the veggie salad were cut into big pieces - and I personally just can't handle that much onion at once. We ordered a Kunafa for dessert, which is warmed goat cheese covered with crispy shredded wheat - and it was a lovely end to the meal. Not as sweet as Kunafa I've had before, but for my taste buds, that's a good thing. The owner brought over complementary mint tea with dessert which we all very much appreciated. The restaurant is very clean and airy, plus there's outdoor seating which is a nice bonus. We also found out that they serve organic chicken and corn-fed beef, and use very high quality cheese, so you can feel even better about frequenting this business. Will be back with the hubby very soon!

I just had lunch today here with 2 other friends. They totally messed up our orders. We all wanted spinach wrap, but we all got wheat. I ordered a Falafel Wrap w/ Eggplant and mine didn't have any eggplant. That's far too many mistakes in one order.

While my chicken shish kabob wrap was really good, everyone else's food was very average. The lamb and beef kufta was absolutely tasteless and super dry. Plus, the service was really slow. If we had all gotten chicken I would have given this place 5 stars, but the rest just wasn't up to par. The people are friendly but the place is just too expensive for what you get. They do give you unlimited pita bread which is served hot and toasted so they get a thumbs up for that.

I grew up in Michigan around many top notch Middle Eastern restaurants. In my opinion, this is on of the better restaurants for Mediterranean food in the Bay area. Great location, clean interior, very friendly owners/staff, and excellent food! I don't write many reviews but I was impressed by this place.

Our family have been here several times over the last 2 months. Very nice and friendly people. We can tell that sometimes they are short-handed but they do try their best to give good service. Food is excellent. All the meats are HALAL and the chickens are also ORGANIC. The elder gentleman that owns the place is always very friendly. He walks around and talks to the customers to make sure that everything is okay. He stops by our table every time without fail. We have tried several items on the menu and so far we have not been disappointed. Even our little daughter loves the basmati rice and chicken :-) The location is perfect too.. a great place to relax and enjoy your dinner and do some people watching on Castro :-) :-)

Good freshly-made falafel. Very good chicken kebab. The hummus is not good. Friendly service, and reasonably clean. Recommended overall.

Very high quality and fresh Med food. I am not a huge fan of region of food but the meal was still very enjoyable. All of the dishes are made fresh and it really shows.

This place is definitely my favorite for Mediterranean food! Although a bit pricey for a broke college student like myself, the portions are really big for me and the food is delish! I always go with #9 (Chicken Shawerma Plate) which consists of chicken shawerma, Basmati rice, Mediterranean salad, hummus, AND pita bread. So much food! My absolute favorite is their hummus but their baba ghannuj is amazing as well so if you have the chance, try both of them! Their service was great tonight as well, but I've found that their service is consistently well every time I come here which is a big thumbs up! The man that was working the register was very kind and friendly. When I've come here before, I usually have to go pick up my order after they finish making it, but tonight, they brought the food to us. I really wish they changed the old cigar shop to Mediterranean Grill House much earlier while I was still in high school because I would have been able to come more often! But when I'm back in Mountain View to visit, this place is always up for being a consideration for a quick and yummy place to eat at!
